An unusual occurrence, but…
While Mobile Help’s response has usually been acceptable, an incident which occurred while I was traveling last Thanksgiving was concerning. I was at a restaurant on the top of an office building in Tampa, Fl when I had a piece of meet get caught in my esophagus. While I could breathe, the event did cause discomfort and some level of panic. My Mobile Help alarm must have been activated while family members were attempting the Heimlich maneuver (which did not work since the obstruction was in my esophagus and not my trachea.) My neighbors, one of my emergency contacts, were called and they informed Mobile Help that I was away. I don’t know if Tampa EMS was advised, but I was told when discussing the incident with Mobile Help that my alert had timed out. Whether EMS couldn’t find me because I was in an office building or because none of my emergency contacts were reachable, or for some other reason, the emergency help request was dropped. Fortunately, no harm was done. If I had been in a situation where I was alone having a medical emergency in an unfamiliar location, potentially with multiple locations having the same address, the results could have been much different. The consequences of not responding to a medical emergency could be deadly This is why I have only given Mobile Help three stars. Mobile Help’s representative to whom I spoke was sympathetic and understanding, but I do not know if procedures to prevent this from happening again have been instituted or not.
