Scoop-free hands-free !
It’s been 2 weeks since our Meowant Extra Large automatic litter box arrived and I couldn’t be happier. First, I really appreciated the great company communication. From order confirmation and when to expect delivery, thru FedEx tracking (which started in NJ), to FL delivery only two days later was wonderful and speedy. (I wish there was a way to opt out of having to wait around and sign for the FedEx package, but I understand.) My two Siberian tuxedos ZuZu and LuckyCat (aka Chicken) have used a so-called “automatic” litter box since they were fostered & adopted 2 years ago. I still don’t understand how it could be advertised as “self-cleaning,” “hands free cleanup,” “never scoop again,” because it literally just rakes the waste to one end of the litter tray and hides it under a plastic flap until I EVERY NIGHT scooped and cleaned it out. My big boys are 15 & 17 lbs and even though they had two of those litter boxes, there was no way I could go more than 24 hrs without cleaning both boxes, plus the rake and the plastic flap parts were always…dirty. Obviously I’ve been looking into a REAL self-cleaning, hands/scoop-free litter box option but something big enough for my two big boys. Chicken is 2 lb lighter than Zuz but he’s longer and his tail is fluffier & as long as his body; Zuz is just a big burly linebacker with oven mitts for paws. Neither of them like confined spaces. The Meowant XL’s inside litter part is almost as big as the litter space in their old litter box, and the Meowant entryway is so much better for bigger cats. The boys have taken to the new litter box — Zuzu faster than Chicken (who’s afraid of pretty much everything & everyone) but they’re now, 2 weeks later, both regularly using it so I’ll be removing the old litter box and monitoring how fast they fill up the Meowant receptacle. I found the litter box and the app really easy to set up. I appreciate the ability to keep track of them & the when to empty the receptacle with the notifications. Tips for use: I did use some “old litter box” litter in the Meowant to help with the new-thing factor. They were both very curious and sniffed the outside and inside as I was setting it up. I also let the old litter box go unscooped as long as I could stand it, which encouraged the boys to use the new but clean litter box. I also found that normal wastebasket-sized trash bags fit the receptacle fine, tho they’re not as thick/smell-containing as Meowant bags. (Just don’t use the super-thin, super cheap generic brand type, like I mistakenly bought for a wastebasket, which rip with anything more than tissues in them!) But in a pinch or to save on costs, other kinds work. And a suggestion about the design: It’d be great if a collar or band of sorts can be made to fit around the top of the receptacle to hold the bag in place and flat against the sides so it can’t bunch up/fit loosely and create places where litter either collects in pockets on the top or filters down to the well that the receptacle sits in.) Finally, one thing about the notifications, and it may be just a matter of them still getting used to how to use the new litter box, but I regularly get notifications registering use by a cat weighing half or so as much as my boys and realized that, after they do their business they hop out and then put only their head and front paws inside to dig and cover. There’s room inside for them to turn around, so I’m not sure what that’s all about but I imagine they’ll figure it out once they get more comfortable with it. Five stars for Meowant! Thank you for a truly SCOOP-FREE litter box!
