I Deceptive bonus promotion and discriminatory treatment. Avoid Marcus.
I am writing this review to warn others about my experience with Marcus by Goldman Sachs, which has been nothing short of deceptive and deeply disappointing. As a new customer, I opened an Online Savings Account in March 2026 to take advantage of their Cash Bonus promotion. The instructions for new customers clearly stated: "Enroll New customers: Open an Online Savings Account and enroll." This phrasing combined "Open" and "enroll" into a single, unified step. At no point during the registration process was there a separate button, link, or warning indicating that I needed to complete an additional enrollment step after opening the account. Following these instructions, I deposited $10,000 in new funds on March 18, 2026, and maintained this balance without any withdrawals for over 90 days, fully meeting all financial requirements. When I did not receive the $100 bonus, I contacted Marcus support. I was told I was not enrolled. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (Case #25076404). Marcus responded with a generic denial and the case was closed as unresolved. I then filed a complaint with the CFPB (Case #260828-37661589). On September 11, 2026, Marcus again responded with the same generic denial, without addressing the core issues. Here is the most alarming part: I have since reviewed other BBB complaints and found a clear and concerning pattern: Complaint #25017198 (July 6, 2026): Marcus initially denied the $1,500 bonus, then reversed its decision and paid the customer after investigation. Complaint #24981763 (June 25, 2026): Marcus reversed its initial denial and paid the $1,500 bonus. Complaint #24979920 (June 25, 2026): Marcus also reversed its decision and paid the $1,500 bonus. In all these cases, the customers had larger deposits ($100,000)** and were seeking the **$1,500 bonus. Meanwhile, customers with smaller deposits ($10,000) like myself are routinely denied, despite identical circumstances. This strongly suggests a discriminatory practice where the bank chooses to honor the promotion based on the amount of the deposit rather than the customer's fulfillment of the stated terms. I met all financial requirements and acted in good faith. The bank's marketing practices are deceptive, and their treatment of customers appears discriminatory. I am seeking the $100 bonus I rightfully earned. I recommend others avoid Marcus and consider banks that honor their promises and treat all customers fairly, regardless of deposit size.
