LifeStance’s cancellation policy is unfair when patients are not given a reasonable way to cancel
I did not even know I had an appointment. I never received a confirmation that the appointment had been scheduled. The first and only notification I received was an email on Saturday for an appointment on Tuesday. I immediately tried to cancel. I couldn’t reply to the email, the office was closed, and there was no option to leave a voicemail. Sunday was the weekend and Monday was a holiday. When I finally reached the office, I was told to use the patient portal. I couldn’t access it because LifeStance had never sent me the verification email needed to activate my account. I was then told a supervisor would call me about the cancellation fee. No supervisor ever called. LifeStance expects 48 hours’ notice, yet I wasn’t even notified that I had an appointment until less than 48 business hours beforehand, and they didn’t provide me with a reasonable way to cancel. At this point, this doesn’t look like a legitimate cancellation policy. It looks like a scam designed to collect cancellation fees from patients.
