Nasty customer service, a job not well done at all: a really terrible experience
I had lenses replaced in glasses by Lens Factory a couple of years ago. I was very pleased and decided, when my prescription changed, I would send four pairs to them. I was cost-conscious, and the price was great. I received my four pairs today. The first pair I looked at were beautifully made, with the lens edges polished to my specification: “Please polish the edges to a high gloss.” I loved them until I put them on and found the frame has been so wracked that I will have to go have them readjusted. The other three pairs don’t seem to have suffered that fate, but the lens edges on those three pairs don’t seem to have been polished at all, much less to a high gloss. So, though I thought I’d be pleased with the product, I am not. As for the experience: I paid my money and sent in my frames, some expensive designer frames. A few days later, I got a phone call from a Lens Factory representative. She told me they could not do drill-mount or semi-rimless in the lens choice I’d made. While she was on the phone, I called up their website and read to her this message from the Progressive Lenses page, the cheapest lens offered: “Our plastic lenses will fit into almost any frame, including drill mount frames that have the lens connect directly to the arm of your frames….” She told me she didn’t know what the website said, she only knew that that grade of lens was not suitable for drill mount or semi-rimless frames, and I needed to pay an additional amount to upgrade. I told her I felt that was false advertising, but she didn’t care. Finally, she said they would use the cheaper lenses but if they cracked, there would be no warranty. What was I to do? This woman had my frames, she was being unreasonable, and was playing a bait and switch on me, demanding ransom money. If I’d told her to use the cheapest lenses, and they did crack, I was out $317. If I gave in to her demands, I had to pay an additional $80. If I asked her to simply refund my payment and send my glasses back, there was no guarantee that would happen, nor would I have any recourse if I never saw my glasses again. So, under duress, I paid the ransom. And, if you read the above, you know what I got was a substandard job. So if anyone wants to know if I’m happy, you can tell them “A guy posted that he was not happy at all.”
