Emily C.
Incompetent phlebotomist
Like many others here, I had a terrible experience with a simple blood draw at LabCorp (West 40th Street, 21211). A small, thin young woman with glasses inserted the needle sideways into my vein, causing me enormous pain. Then she started wiggling the needle, saying "Don't do this to me," presumably to the syringe. The pain was so extreme I told her to remove the needle. She finally did, and then asked the other employee to finish the draw, saying (this is true) "Her veins are at an angle, so I went in at an angle." One has wonder what school she attended, if any. Everyone in the busy waiting room heard this, and one woman came out to talk with me when I was leaving, saying they all felt bad for me. BTW the second employee, a pleasant older woman, drew the last vial of blood from a small vein in the other arm, and I felt literally nothing.
