Their payment authorization process is…
Their payment authorization process is horrible. And no, I am not an idiot who does not know how to use their bank account. The process for my bank is that all pending charges are in red and remain at the top of the transaction history of my checking account until cleared, then turns black once the payment is complete. I will not hold my bank accountable for a company’s disorganized shipping and payment process(es). However, I made a Kohl’s purchase on November 28th and distinctly remember seeing it twice (in black) in casual observance (which I do regularly) on my bank account, only to find upon further research from their customer service website that those previous “payments” I saw and assumed had been cleared were mere authorizations and that the “actual” payment would not be complete until the full order had shipped, which for me was 12 days after my order. The first time it happened, I was confused and thought I had been charged twice, though I let it slide because I saw that the previous charge/authorization had gone away. However, the second time this happened, I was caught off guard and unfortunately did not have enough money in my bank account to cover a charge that I thought had already gone through. This caused me to go into overdraft and receive a $30 courtesy payment fee on top of the payment withdrawal. On the plus side, I’m glad I did not have to call customer service in order to find this out, and instead could be disappointed by their website FAQs rather than an actual human voice. Still, it would be nice to know this in advance rather than finding out the hard way, after my checking account has been overdraft.
