The gaslighting is strong with this one.
Well, I guess I will never order from Kohl's online again. Times are tight and I was lured in by some honestly great sale prices, but that's about the only good thing I can say. I have ordered from Kohl's online in the past for a couple of Christmas gifts which worked out. Since they are a major retailer, I thought they were pretty reliable. As a dual resident of different states, I carefully ensured my shipping address was set to AR. I checked out and thought all was well but remembered some other items that were needed. The items were available and I made a second order for these items, also careful to check the shipping info. I was really excited because I got some items for an upcoming trip and paid extra for one-day shipping and the items were all set to arrive in time! Then the crap hit the fan. I got the tracking info on the first order. They had my billing address listed as the shipping address! I checked and the second order was the same. I immediately contacted customer service through chat with both order numbers. I requested for them to be sent to the correct address or my local Kohl's store since they would now arrive when I was supposed to be gone on my trip and I was worried about package theft. The associate said since the items were in fulfillment all he could do was cancel any unshipped items and that I would have to get the other items from North Dakota and ship them back as returns. He said all items had to be returned and once all were received and the items passed an inspection to insure they were in re-saleable condition, a refund would be issued. He said the process could take up to 30 days. He then said if I wanted to avoid problems like this in the future that I needed to make sure I entered the correct information in my order. I was not happy about this as Kohl's placed a hold for the full order amount and charged each portion as it shipped, while still holding the full amount as a pending charge, which amounted to about $800 frozen in my bank acct. As soon as I read this I started typing a quick response that this would not work. I had double-checked the address. With gas prices, driving to my ND address to get the clothes would cost a fortune and I didn't want them returned or I wouldn't have spent all the time shopping for them. Plus, waiting up to 30 days to get my own money back also wasn't helpful and there was no way to get the items before my trip. Without waiting for a response, the service agent exited the chat. I was offered a survey and I was brutally honest about how unhelpful the experience was. At this point, I started questioning my own memory. Had I actually made a mistake on shipping even though I double-checked? I have been really stressed lately. I started doing some looking around. They have a section in the Kohl's account that saves shipping addresses and if you look through their customer service database (which on reflection it's probably a bad sign that they need one) it says if you don't select a shipping address, packages will be sent by default to your primary shipping address on file. I thought, well maybe I got something wrong. I looked up the shipping addresses saved in my account. There was only one address listed in the shipping address section and it was the correct address that I wanted my items sent to in AR. So, according to their info, this should have been the only possible shipping location. To top it all off a couple of days later I got a shipping notice for the second order. He hadn't canceled it at all and the address was still ND! The package had not been picked up by the carrier yet, so I called the carrier thinking maybe they could help. They said they could only update the shipping address if Kohl's contacted them to change it since they had not picked it up yet. So I went back to Kohl's and told them the problem again. This time the person was not rude, but said according to Kohl's policy all they could do was cancel my order, so that's what I had them do. All in all, a waste of time and money. At least in my part of ND porch pirates are rare. I probably won't get my summer wardrobe until fall rolls around... if I keep the clothes. I may have to see if I can get a friend to pick up the clothes and do a return for me. All the while I am out my money and have no summer clothes for my family. No matter what, I will be out the cost of expedited shipping. I am not a fan of gambling or of being gaslit, so IF I shop with this retailer at all in the future, it will only be in person. The online system errors combined with horrible policies and lack of customer care make ordering online from Kohl's feel as risky as buying a "Rolex" off a New York street corner. At least in that scenario, you'll know you have a watch on when you walk off instead of having to try to collect it from 1200 miles away. Beware
