I have to say that my rating has changed completely because of one person at Kidde named Joe McL. At first he was not nice about my initial complaint but he really has made an effort to help me and has treated me with respect. He has been very helpful and prompt in his response to my ongoing problems with the Kidde products.

Don't buy this brand. Nothing but false alarms in the middle of the night. This thing is 2 weeks old and goes off in the middle of the night for no reason. It's garbage.

I have had two smoke alarms in my home and a monoxide alarm from Kidde for many, many years. Recently one of my smoke alarms (model 10Y29) started beeping constantly. I checked the dates of both and by coincidence they were almost exactly 10y old. Neither have given me any issues, and worked correctly when tested. So I replaced both with identical models. I did contact Kidde Customer Services who were prompt, helpful and polite. They confirmed the constant sounding indicated defectiveness and suggested it had had its life, which is fair. Therefore, I cannot fault items nor the service received.

STOP changing the mounting bracket every few years! Replacing a smoke detector should be simple—not require removing and reinstalling a new plastic ceiling mount every time. Are there really that many breakthroughs in smoke-detector mounting technology? Worse, a “10-year” detector starts randomly beeping after only 4 years. Then the replacement won’t fit the old mount. Standardize the bracket! This is a smoke detector, not a remodeling project.

Went off at random times

1 star is a gift. These are junk. We have issues for years. Replaced all new batteries, etc. junk do not buy. No customer support.

I replaced 7 smoke detectors with new kidde detectors that were supposed to last 10 years. After just a year, the alarms started randomly going off usually at 2am. The alarms are not easy to reset or quiet leading to several early mornings where an alarm was thrown into the yard or crushed with a hammer. There are much better options out there and I have replaced all of my kidde detectors with other brands.

Like many others, we were woken up in the middle of the night from this smoke detector for no reason. If the batteries are dying why can’t it just do the regular chirp?? Would not recommend unless you love waking up with a huge adrenaline rush at 3am
