A great concept but with some serious kinks to iron out! My biggest problem with it is the extraordinary WEIGHT of KDP books! KDP books are more than DOUBLE the weight of standard books, and who wants to carry a brick of a book around in their bag?! Not me! Highly impractical. Hurts your wrists to hold too!
Secondly, there is little to no exposure/visibility of even the most decent books online, despite filling out all the keywords and metadata. All that hard work and books are just left to gather dust in some KDP abyss! I say all this as a traditionally-published AND self-published author.
Thirdly, there are loads of technical glitches with KDP/Create, which - despite my many factual (and hopefully helpful) feedback messages to KDP - remain unaddressed and unresolved.
Please sort it out KDP! You're letting your readers and writers down! You've so much potential to do better! Please listen to us!

Their lack of error messages for why…
Their lack of error messages for why your books fails to upload is driving me insane. It just says failed with no reason whatsoever.

Very bad customer service for authors
Very bad customer service for book authors. They don't listen or think, just send back copy-paste replies that don't apply to the situation. Lots of bugs too with their software.

Worst customer service I've ever known.
Getting a book out is easy enough if you take the time to read things. But DO NOT make a mistake!
I made a simple mistake that meant I couldn't be paid. All I got from them was a constant stream of emails telling me to update my banking details. Day after day after day. I had to threaten them with legal action before anyone decided to tell me what the problem was. But even then they messed up, saying only that the problem was my name and that I should send some ID. It wasn't until I had got angry with several different people that someone finally mentioned what I had done wrong, and the next sentence was to tell me not to respond to any more of their emails!! Apparently they like being rude and causing problems, but don't like being responded to.
So, really not the best customer service I've come across! The words Unhelpful, Rude, Nasty and Incompetent, come to mind.
As for getting author copies, forget it. So far I've only managed to get two. Every time I try to order more I'm told they cannot be delivered to any of the addresses I usually use for Amazon's deliveries.

Messed up Copies
Lately I have had nothing but trouble when ordering author copies of my books. One set of paperbacks was published without page numbers and I'm assuming they used the ebook template to publish them. I just received some in the mail today and nine were done correctly. But one in the set was created using an old version template that I took offline months ago. Lately working with KDP has been nothing but a headache.
