Canadians purchasing in CDN currency being charged in USD
I ordered a scooter with an optional seat and a lock from isinwheel.ca totalling $1248.78 CDN on Mar. 24/25, using my Canadian Visa. I canceled the order on Mar. 25/25 after reading reviews concerning the throttle sticking as I'm a senior and didn't want to take the chance. The company responded by offering me a $100 discount which I declined. Then on Mar. 26/25 the company offered a $150 discount which I again declined. After I received notices that the packages were in fact being sent to me, I contacted the company and they stated they would attempt to stop the deliveries. On Mar. 25/25 my Visa was billed $1312.77 because it was billed $891.65 USD currency. The company has steadfastly denied it caused any additional costs and blame my bank for the costs and that I should take it up with them. No where on isinwheel.ca site does it caution Canadians that their purchase will be billed in USD currency for a Canadian purchase. Now for the refund part. The company credited my Visa in the amount of $1264.00 CDN on April 7/25. Today it changed to $1229.36 CDN. So at this point I don't know how much money I'm out for dealing with this company. The company managed to stop the shipment of the scooter but I received the lock and notified the company. They initially responded that they had the lock and that the scooter had been sent. Once I sent them a picture of the package containing the lock and asked how they wanted it returned, they replied they won't take it back and offered me a discount of 50% USD! From the email: "As for the lock, based on our return and refund policy, we typically do not accept returns for accessories. However, I can offer you a 50% refund for the lock, which would be $27.49 USD. Please let me know if this arrangement works for you." After claiming in email after email that the company charged me in CDN currency they make me an offer in USD. Also from another email April 6/25, they admit they charge in USD currency. "I would like to clarify that purchases made on isinwheel.ca are processed through our US payment processor, which may result in charges being made in USD. If you paid with a card that is not in USD, your bank or credit card provider may apply a foreign transaction fee. This fee typically ranges from 1% to 3% of the transaction amount, depending on your bank or card issuer's policy." To top it all off this company tried to intimidate me when I said I would be sharing my experience with other consumers to be aware of their lousy practices, threatening to have their legal department take action. Go right ahead because all it will do is shine a bright light on this company. I would never make a purchase or recommend this company or its products. Buyer beware.
