Hotspot Shield is a master at taking your money and a complete failure at delivering what you paid for. I maintained a Premium membership for years, only to be arbitrarily downgraded to Basic without any valid explanation. After numerous back-and-forths with their customer service—filled with excuses and misleading statements—the only “solution” they offered was to push me toward an expensive upsell: a three-year plan at about $100 per year, disguised as a 76% discount. I declined and switched to a far more reliable VPN provider that has never let me down. Beyond being untrustworthy, Hotspot Shield’s service itself is highly unreliable. Don’t expect smooth streaming abroad—their VPN is quickly detected and blocked by platforms regardless of the server location. Even basic functions, such as banking apps and everyday mobile apps, fail to work properly when connected. In short, Hotspot Shield is not worth the hassle. I had been a loyal, very long-term subscriber to this VPN when I noticed one day it said I no longer had a paid account. I contacted customer service to enquire and was told that the payment company they used to take my yearly subscription had shut down. I was then advised to resubscribe at a higher rate on an offer available to any new customer! I wrote back to say this was unacceptable as they had not informed me of my account’s impending cancellation nor of the change in payment method. The reply sent to me was a slap in the face. I was told that the new subscription was “better than my old one” and was AGAIN advised to resubscribe at this higher rate. Well, isn’t that convenient for the company! Avoid this awful, money-hungry company!

Ayant un problème de connexion avec Dashlane, j'ai téléchargé gratuitement Hotspotshield sur la page Dashlane. Catastrophe! Mon PC est devenu incontrôlable, je n'avais plus la main dessus. À force de consulter l'assistance de Microsoft et d' Asus au moyen de mon Smartphone, j'ai pu de nouveau accéder à mon PC. Mais depuis, il s'est mis à ralentir et mon Bluetooth ne fonctionnait plus. Au bout de quelques jours, j'ai désinstallé cette application (avec difficulté) et tout est redevenu normal. J'espère simplement ne pas m'être trompée en téléchargeant car certains commentateurs ont été facturés et n'ont pas pu mettre fin à leur abonnement. Je vais donc scruter mes relevés bancaires.

I have been using Hotspot Shield for several years now and I love it. I rely on many of its features, especially location and the all-important Kill Switch. I also use the mobile companion app for iOS. Recently I had an issue with the program on my PC and contacted the help desk via live chat. We tried several fixes, but none of them worked immediately. I then had conversations via email with the help desk team. They were surprisingly prompt (and professional) and provided me with a solution within a day. Amazing!
