I ordered some plants in November, and when I received them, they had suffered from "cold damage." The plants were completely mushy (like spinach) and unsalvageable. After contacting customer service, they said I needed to add winter protection but offered to send new plants. I was annoyed because the description for winter packaging said something like "Shipping to a cold state? Add winter packaging..." (It has since been updated.) I live in California which I would not consider to be a "cold state." Whatever. Then, I finally received the new plants with winter packaging, and they were completely mushy and unsalvageable. Again! I am awaiting a response from customer service for a refund. It has been several months, and I have yet to receive a living plant. At this point this has been a giant waste of time and plants! Absolute scam.

Ordered a plant and it arrived with what they described as “cold damage.” They said I was given the chance to add cold protection to my order and I didn’t, but that they’d send me another one with cold protection on the house. Cool. After a couple weeks I get the plant and it also has cold damage but much less. The branches look like they’ve been trimmed substantially for some reason, I don’t know why. Maybe to fit in the box? It looks weird, like maybe it wasn’t in great health to begin with. I live in California and they are based in Florida so I didn’t think I needed cold protection but apparently they won’t show the initiative on their own to ensure their product makes it to you alive unless you pay extra one quarter of the year — which is weird imo. Glad I was ordering for myself and not as a gift. Would have been so embarrassing — and I can’t help but think they’re banking on the sender never finding out that the recipient received a dead plant as their business model.

I ordered A plant that cost $85 to send to my mother for her birthday. When I received confirmation that the shipping label was created I noticed that the address was incorrect and it was shipping to my home. I live in North Carolina and she lives in New York. immediately tried contacting them to have the address changed as the plant was still at their facility. I tried several times to get someone on the telephone without success so I left a message and then followed up with an email. Several hours later, I received an email from them stating they were unable to change the shipping address. The reason they gave me was because they are a small Business and it helps them keep their orders straight. This did not make sense to me because they are a small business and the plant hadn’t left the facility. Even after I explained to them that I was leaving the country and the plant would sit outside of my house for two weeks they still would not help me out. I ended up having to pay USPS to reroute the package, which did not work either. Luckily I had someone come to my house and put the plant inside so I could ship it when I returned. The plant was beautiful and still in good condition however, by the time I could ship it, she received it two weeks after her birthday. I don’t believe that is good customer service and I will not be ordering them again.

Ordered a Meyer lemon tree. Website was pushing to get on their mailing list offering 10% off the first order using a discount code and free air plants by clicking on a link in an email. Ok, I'll bite. The link didn't add on the free plants and the discount code didn't work. Sothat was a complete waste of time. Plant shipped a few days later, arrived in ok condition. A few brown leaves falling off, but no signs of pests or disease. It's still alive 1 month later so I can't complain about the actual product, only that the promo offer didn't work. Seen the reviews here and figured they already got my money, no reason to waste my time trying to get back 7 bucks. Would not use them again.

What a terrible company! Don’t buy from here. They don’t honor their shipping. Customer service is awful. Very negative experience

I got a 6 month subscription for my mom for mother's day. A subscription that delivers them to her once a month for 6 months? Yay! 3 free mystery air plants sounded good too because she just so happened to be into them at the time, but trying to get those added was my first problem with their communication. They weren't listed under the air plant tab (the 2 that were listed didn't qualify) so you couldn't add them to the order. Their website would not recognize my mail address and the email would kick back to me. Since you can't call and speak to anyone, I had to go the website, leave a message and wait for a response. I almost gave up then, I do not like not being able to communicate easily when there is a problem - and there were - several of them. Her first delivery arrived in the winter packaging that was recommended on the site (I live in CO, didn't want to risk a cold day in spring) it was a boston fern and it was damaged by that recommended packaging. Such a pathetic, extremely fussy first plant to send in the first place. Just a bad choice, but this had so many broken fronds that my mom's green thumb could not save it. It was dead within days. The free air plants were nice, however. She was happy with those and she was also happy when they contacted her after I complained about that plant. They gave her $22 to chose a new plant to replace it. My mom chose a new plant and when it arrived, it was just another disappointment. It was a red prayer plant and it had damaged leaves, brown spots, tears and a film on it that coated the leaves and couldn't be washed off. It just looked sick. They included 3 air plants which would have been nice if one of them hadn't been dead. By this point, I had had enough. I no longer trusted that they could follow through and get a decent plant to my mom, so I contacted them on the website to cancel and get a refund. Crickets. I contacted them twice on their website and once from a different email to see if that would work. NOTHING I finally had to go to paypal, which was my payment method, and have them contact the HeyRooted for a refund. They responded to that almost immediately. Huh....with no response or apology for ruining my mother's day gift. This was a terrible experience. Use this service at your own peril. You can believe the reviews on their site, or you can believe the ones you read here and save yourself a headache. They need a lot of improvement, I definitely do not recommend.

Having previously reviewed this company, I feel compelled to update my comments in light of further distressing experiences. Initially, I might have given Rooted the benefit of the doubt, but it has become painfully clear that their plants often arrive in poor health, afflicted with conditions like root rot and fungal diseases. Furthermore, their customer service is severely lacking; communication ceases abruptly, especially when attempting to address these serious issues. Despite multiple purchases, each plant I received was compromised, requiring excessive care or being beyond salvage. The patterns are unmistakable and deeply disappointing. I now realize the importance of this warning: avoid purchasing from this company. It is far more reliable and satisfying to select and inspect plants personally at local nurseries. Purchasing from Rooted has only led to frustration and wasted effort. Buyers, please beware.
