Even just saying, "This place shaped my life," is too trite. But it's true. Then they kicked me out, and that shaped my life too. In ways that I don't like, but what can you do when you get too close to someone with authority over you? If you have the chance to join Hero Journey Club, I would. But if you have the chance to get close to someone there, I would not. It's meant to be a place where you can be homed, found, and so much other good stuff. That's not true though, because it got too big, too fast. I wish it would have many years of success, but unfortunately I will be part of only the first.

I have a lot of social anxiety, so I decided to give hero journey club a try to start pushing out of my comfort zone. I have only done individual therapy, and not anything group related or sub-clinical like HJC. I wasn't sure that it would be helpful for me, but wanted to give it a shot! The first session I still wasn't sure if this was the right fit for me, but the staff were super supportive about it and switched me to a group that met closer met my needs. It's really helped bring me out of my shell and feel more comfortable sharing! I really enjoy the other Journeyers I've got to meet, and honestly made some great friends that I talk to everyday even after almost a year with the program. I really never expected it to become something I look forward to every week! I especially love when the Guides share resources and work through them together as a group. The goals are helpful too, to remind me to be mindful of my week ahead. Really love this place :)

Journey sessions are great. You get to talk and share with a small group of ppl with similar ages and issues as you, and if you don't like the group you can ask to switch. Therapists are kind, compassionate, trauma informed, and have great resources. I have had a lot of thoughtful discussions in the groups about trauma and other hard topics we all shared together. Personally I love the concept of what they are doing. Therapy is already such a stigmatized and abused system and they are trying to introduce a new approach and I think that is such an awesome important and well needed aspect as someone who had to grow up watching my family struggle with undiagnosed mental illnesses and be constantly abused by the medical system.

They changed their policies and unfortunately it is not in the spirit of what they are advertising— which is accessible mental health support groups. EDIT: They should also include that they did change the policy to 48 hours, but they will only credit you for half the cost of your session. Their responses here are manipulative. They are not a safe space. Beware.

This program WORKS! I’ve written many super long testimonials - but I’ll keep this one short. I’ve been a part of the program for over 9 months now. When I joined, I as well as my group was struggling with things like panic attacks, executive function, fear, things that really impacted our day-to-day lives. Now, less than a year later, the topics we are working on aren’t surviving skills, but thriving skills such as healthy communication, balancing productivity with rest, and how to build positive relationships. My entire group is better off than we were and it’s amazing to have their support as we make our way through the next chapter of our lives. I can’t recommend HJC more.

I believed in what I thought it was, but as with most things in life, things are not always what they seem. Proceed at own risk - though in this case it’s a risk to your mental health so please give it serious consideration before making the decision you believe is best for yourself. Your mileage may vary. Edit to add: By their reply below you can see a little bit of what I mean - they were presented with general feedback and they immediately tried to make it about something specific so that they could attempt to invalidate my voice. It wouldn’t be the first time. So just in case it doesn’t go without saying, I wasn’t referring to just your “temporary” changes, or even the newest set of changes “for the better of the community”. It’s all of it. The entire environment and some of the people in particular have no business in a space that requires understanding and compassion. Some of your fake it real nice, though.

I’m super busy and I love that I get to take the time to stop and reflect on the week with other people. Gaming is optional and there’s never any pressure to get more involved than you are comfortable with.
