This "helpful program" is not supposed to kick people when they're down but damn the kicks don't stop coming, do they? If you want to get better, steer clear of HJC. The friendly faces you see are far from being true; make no mistake, this isn't a place for you. There isn't any space left when you consider the egotistical behavior of some of the Journey "Guides" and the staff have only got themselves to blame for falling numbers. I used to love HJC, now I am wishing I never joined.

gave me false hope, took my money, thought i finally found something that would work. They gave me false hope, i thought someone cared about me. They are a repugnant and I feel worse then i did before. I'm just going to go to a real therapist, because Hero Journey Club scammed me, gave me false hope, feel worse, so I will see a real therapist. Have my appointment scheduled. Will try to escalate further so no more people get hurt.

I want to preface by saying that the journey guides are incredible and that they do a fantastic job of things. The idea behind gaming while doing group sessions is a fantastic idea and is put into action well. However, the staff that run the show behind the scenes seem to hide a lot and aren't communicative in the slightest about upcoming changes until they happen (see the community server shutting down). I had a lot of friends who wanted to grab usernames of other friends, helpful links, or just general screenshots of conversations that brought them joy but none of that was possible as there was 0 amount of prep time. Everything was just shut down without a word.

I... Don't think I'm quite able to explain exactly why, but having fellow gamers, and people who are going through similar things who are always able and willing to listen has been extremely helpful.

Hero Journey has wonderful guides that provide you with a safe space, non judgemental listening, and a diverse community of people that are all focused on bettering themselves and helping each other in the process. I meet up every week with my group and we begin our sessions with the "Rose, Thorn, & Bud" exercise, which gives everyone a nice update as to what's been going on lately. Then we take from everyone's experiences and go with a certain focus or theme, or the guide has one in mind and finds ways to apply it to each individual situation. It opens us up to a wonderful dialogue discussing the difficulties of life just as much as the meaningful lessons and sometimes how to see those difficulties as beautiful for the experiences they provide us with. Each session feels new enough to be refreshing with all of the perspectives group therapy offers, and when being lead by such encouraging and understanding individuals, it keeps me coming back and it makes me feel like I've found something that I plan to maintain for a long time. The benefits and feel goods at the end of the session is just always worth it.

Hero Journey Club offers a chance for gamers to meet and work through life issues together. They're great at offering a platform of different games. It feels like the staff really care and enjoy their jobs. Our journey guide (therapist) is knowledgeable and extremely helpful.

The guides and groups are fantastic. The organization of everything is just weird though. It’s all ran in Discord, and there’s a million chats that I don’t know what are for. But if you need to skip a session, you have to dig through discord to find the Zendesk link, and send a ticket in that way. You can’t tell your guide or put it in the discord group to have it taken care of. The other weird thing is the email situation. A few weeks ago, they started sending unsolicited reminder emails the day before and the day of your session. I replied back asking them to unsubscribe me from those, because I don’t need reminders - there’s a bot in Discord that already does that. I got a response from someone saying they don’t have the ability to unsubscribe me from the emails, and they’re working on making that an option for people. I think the company needs to eventually make their own app, like Talkspace or similar, where the group discussions, communities, and customer service items live. The company is starting up and it’s expected, but as it grows, I think they’ll need a different structure to manage everyone. I have gotten a lot out of the group though, and it is something I look forward to every week. My group doesn’t do group gaming together, which I find a little sad since I thought that was the point of the program, but it’s still very useful and helping out a lot.
