I have been overcharged over $700 from headway. They do not estimate insurance properly and will not refund my money even though their estimates are wildly incorrect. I’m not sure how this is legal but I will be finding out. They fixed the problem for one person in my immediate family but will not fix it for my account and we’re on the exact same insurance. I will never use a producer through them again in the future. They are quick to take my money and slow to refund it. I spoke to a person on the phone finally and all he said was he understood my frustration. No actual solution. I would give zero stars but it’s not an option.

I am terminally ill, and on a fixed income. I had 3 monthly sessions with Headway last fall, and suddenly had over a thousand dollars drafted from my account. I opened a ticket with them and had a terrible customer service experience. They say that my insurance company denied the request, but they refuse to provide proof. I also have an email from them saying that these services would cost $30 per session and not the $300 plus that I was charged. On top of this, the service that was provided was marginal at best.

I found a therapist through Headway after months of searching, confirmed they were in-network, and completed four sessions. Then Headway told me their own system had the credentialing wrong the whole time, and I could no longer see this provider (unless via private pay, which is not an option) - this is mid-treatment, through no fault of mine. What struck me most was the response. No apology, no acknowledgment of how distressing this is for someone mid-treatment. Just a flat explanation that their “guardrails” had caught a mismatch. The rug was completely pulled out from under me, and they didn’t seem the least bit bothered by it. For mental health care, continuity matters. Losing a provider you’ve built trust with because of an error the platform didn’t catch is genuinely harmful, and the least a company can do is acknowledge that. As a clinician, I had considered joining Headway’s provider network. Not anymore and I would discourage it to colleagues as well. A platform this broad shouldn’t get something as basic as insurance routing wrong, and it shouldn’t handle the fallout with this little care. I am beyond disappointed, discouraged, hurt, and alarmed. Edit - this AI sounding generic reply from Headway is insult on injury, I've already communicated to support and nothing has been done. Of course it's unresolved - I am being cut off from my provider due to headways error.

Missed an important therapy session because their AI incorrectly interpreted insurance I had already been successfully using with them. Missed two weeks because of their mistake. *I* reached out to my insurance and *I* corrected the mistake. Next session, they charged me in full (AKA Stole My Money) because their system once again misread my insurance. No offer to fix the mistake or refund the money. Can't even reach a human to talk. 100000% SCAM. Do not use anyone operating under Headway. THEY WILL STEAL YOUR MONEY.

My therapist showed up late for my first a second session. When I called in support person very helpful. Trying another therapist and if that is not great I will not being using Headway.

Was my experience? I am not sure why this is past tense. I would like to continue with Headway. However, I have not received any referrals. Please advise
