Headway is a Scam — They Committed E-Fraud and Lied Repeatedly If I could give ZERO stars, I would. Headway is hands down the WORST platform I’ve ever encountered in the mental health space. They charged me SIX TIMES for the SAME SESSION, even though my insurance had already paid them in full. They LIED and said the charges were valid, when I had proof from my insurance that the session was covered and paid. This isn’t just a billing error — it’s e-fraud. Plain and simple. They attempted to double and triple charge me, then sent me a bill for over $1,000 for sessions my insurance already paid THEM for. It’s theft. When I contacted them for help, they dodged accountability, gave conflicting answers, and refused to fix it. They’re scamming clients and therapists alike, and it’s disgusting. I was harassed over a bogus balance that I never owed — all while trying to get support during one of the hardest times in my life. Mental health companies should be built on trust and integrity — Headway has NONE. Avoid this company at all costs. File complaints with your insurance provider, your state’s attorney general, and report them for unethical and illegal practices. This is not just bad business — it’s predatory behavior targeting vulnerable people. SHAME ON HEADWAY.

Terrible company. They take excessive funds from the therapists who allow them to exist and have rigid rules for claim filing, which makes the process less valuable. If you’re a therapist, you’re far better off going with Alma or another group provider.

Prior to scheduling my appointments, I provided all necessary insurance documentation, including my insurance card, through their system. I was explicitly assured—both by Headway representatives and my provider—that my coverage had been verified and accepted. Relying on this verification, I proceeded with the appointments in good faith, with the clear understanding that I would only be responsible for any applicable copays. I have now been informed, more than two months after the fact, that Headway made an error in verifying my insurance and is attempting to hold me liable for the full cost of the sessions (over $300). I've been emailing them a few times, and they keep saying "We're going to have our verifications team reach out to your insurance." They will save your Debit card information and charge you arbitrarily, while giving you assurance that they will accept your insurance and you will pay a certain amount. And you won't be able to delete your payment method on file. Avoid the services at all cost.

Monstrously inept. My insurance, despite being approved multiple times, was rejected arbitrarily for no reason. I called many times, to no avail. At one point, they called me with my insurer on the line, and couldn't address the issue even while speaking with my insurer who gave approval. They're absolutely terrible, unresponsive, almost no customer service. Avoid at all costs.

Headway provides the worst experience if you use them please keep an eye on the charges.. i do not recommend this company! I want to start by saying i love my therapist. she is wonderful at her job but due to headway i have had to stop my sessions because i refused to pay headway any more money after all the issues ive had with them since Dec 2023. i have dealth with inconsistent charges, Over charges, delay in responding, no concern for problem resolution. Working with headway customer after explaining the situation to one person they send me to a different representative who isnt able to help then they say i need a different person, ive been sent to 5 representatives provided proof, i spoke to my insurance who told me that headway was going to refund the over charge amount for 2 sessions i gave headway 3 weeks for the claim changes, no one contacted me. when i called they told me i didnt over pay due to the charge changes they put in the system i provided proof of EOB and receipts but instead of headway paying me back they stop replying. i informed my insurance of the situation they try to call headway but there is no direct line to contact headways financial or claims department. I do not recommend this company. Expensive, unorganized, no accountability, and lack or problems solving.

This is a review of Headway's billing practices and no way reflects on the therapists that use this service for billing and patient management. My partner has received therapy with her therapist who uses Headway for billing and the therapist is great. We normally pay our regular co-pay and didn't think much of anything, until recently. For many, many months, we paid the co-pay and all was well. All of a sudden, we started receiving bills for full service instead of paying the co-pays. We checked with our insurance and there were no changes in coverage and the therapist was still in-network. The only way to contact them is through their on-line ticketing system. There is no phone number to call to talk to a live person. We submitted a ticket asking for a correction as their charges were clearly a mistake. They said they looked into it and they confirmed just the co-pay. They closed the ticket and did not offer any refund. A few weeks later, we were billed for three more sessions at full price. We opened another ticket and they are "investigating." I have no hopes of receiving the money we are owed and will be initiating a chargeback from our bank. We are owed closed to $700 now. DO NOT use this company as you will be billed incorrectly and never get your money back. They are fraudulent and take advantage of people that are unaware.

I was excited to start as a provider. I received a lot of marketing emails and I even received a message shaming me for not having more clients. Terrible experience.

I started seeing my therapist through Headway in March 2025. At that time, the platform and customer service told me I was in-network. After five sessions, I was informed that my insurance had actually been out-of-network since January 1, 2025 (which was three months before I started therapy). Because of this, I had to pay more than I had agreed upon with my insurance company. Headway apologized for the mistakes but did not refund the extra money I paid for the first five sessions. I had called my insurance company twice before starting therapy to check my coverage, but the billing still got mixed up. I understand that estimated costs can sometimes change. However, in my case, learning that I was out-of-network only after starting care was disappointing, as this information should have been communicated beforehand. As a client, you may face extra billing charges even after confirming with your insurance company, and your care could be interrupted because of billing issues. Speaking for myself, I had a very frustrating experience working with Headway. They do not have live support, and billing information might not always be correct.
