Common Complaints: Clients and providers report frustrating insurance verification errors, unexpected billing charges or incorrect co-pays, and difficulty reaching responsive live customer support when payment issues arise. They require a deposit but claim they don't, bill you before billing insurance and claim they know what clients will owe when verifying insurance yet DO NOT provide that information up front and prior to appointments. Total lack of Transparency. They require a payment method to be kept on file and bill what they want , they do not provide billing explanation of benefits BEFORE charging you and are not transparent and truthful about where and how to view bill. They have full knowledge that their home page implies otherwise and misleads some clients by implying you may have as low as a zero out of pocket. If they know what you owe when they verify your insurance; than that information should be shared PRIOR to services and billing. I will not use any Therapist that works with them.

This me rollout of fees per appointment is not enticing for anyone to stay so I'll be leaving the service.

**Charged an extra $40 for a visit from nearly three years ago** I used Headway for an appointment in November 2023 and paid $45 at the time. In September 2026, Headway changed the invoice to $85 and charged the additional $40 to my Amex. The updated invoice shows the original $45 crossed out, but it does not explain why the amount changed almost three years later. An October 2023 visit with the same provider and billing codes still shows $45. I understand that insurance claims can be adjusted, but I should not have to piece together the reason for a surprise charge this long after the appointment. Headway, please provide the original and revised insurance claim details, explain why this November visit changed while the October visit did not, and refund the $40 if it was charged in error. Please also confirm whether you plan to adjust any of my other old appointments. *update 9/29 still waiting for a resolution. Was told it would take 3 business days for a response? This is B-S. How about just refund me the $40 because you know how ridiculous this entire deal is.

Long and confusing experience to find caregivers, register insurance info, and to actually get care. Can't access real people to solve problems and was just left hanging with a kind of "sorry" and " we're trying to do better. Referred there through my Horizon Blue Cross. After frustrating attempts to square up with these foks they tell me that my secondary doesn't cover the care and my primary is Medicare...which they don't take. What a waste of time...and to have a company supposedly dedicated to helping people and their real issues...they just create more issues.

Why would any quality provider join Headway when they can negotiate their own rates w insurers, and why would anyone client think they’d be getting a highly skilled therapist on that site? Headway steals your data and sells it. Go find a practitioner who has their own private practice!!!

Horrible. They run your insurance up front and I was quoted 30 dollars per session. After my first session I was charged 150, from which I was told was only because it was an original session, and insurance would kick in. Two months later and six sessions later (and 750 dollars later) I received a letter that I now am additional 472 dollars. No itemized bill offered. Nothing. No therapy session should be over 225 dollars an hour with insurance. Also terrible customer service. If you are looking for any form of help, don’t bother with this platform, you will only leave with more issues than when you started.

While I thought headway was good, it ended up being an inconvenience for me. I would not recommend them. I’m covered through my husband’s employer for health insurance. We have Aetna PPO. However, due to an injury my husband went on leave with his job and for a couple of months, we didn’t have insurance. Me being a kidney transplant recipient needing life saving medication, I applied for emergency Medicare solely for the purposes of the medication while I didn’t have coverage. Due to this, headway denied covering my services with my mental health clinicians. I got my PPO insurance back after my husband returned to work and received this message “We don’t take Medicare, so we cannot bill your secondary insurance.” Other organizations would attempt to bill Medicare, get denied and then bill Aetna, then Aetna would pay. They didn’t want to do this, they didn’t want to work with me at all. I was basically told that I had to get rid of my Medicare coverage for immunosuppressant drugs in order to receive services to treat my mental health. Get rid of medication keeping me alive? Like you want my kidney transplant to fail in order to treat my mental health issues? No.
