Poor Insurance/Financial Practices
From May 2023 to early September 2023, I was under the care of a mental health provider through Grow Therapy. I began therapy because I was told Grow Therapy accepted my insurance and my provider was in-network. In September of 2023, after I asked my therapist why I wasn't being charged my session co-pays, he inquired with the billing department. About 2-3 weeks later, a representative messaged me to let me know that they are not in network with my insurance and in order to continue services, I would have to pay a large out-of-pocket cost. Sadly, I had to end care with my therapist. This was devastating for me as I was dealing with depression and anxiety and was making progress. In late September 2023, my mother and I began family therapy together. She found a therapist on Grow Therapy through her own insurance. They said they accepted her insurance and were in network. On 12/11/2023, Grow Therapy and the therapist contacted my mother to let her know that they did NOT accept her insurance and were NOT in network with her plan. After five sessions, we were yet again disappointed by Grow Therapy and had to discontinue services. I am not sure what is occurring with their billing department and/or system, but to have this happen once is unacceptable, but two times is horrible and truly impermissible. It is poor practice especially for a mental health company. Luckily, my mother and I have a support system, but I think about all the people who are struggling with major mental health issues. This could lead someone to self-harm or take their life. Care should not just be cancelled out of no where. If this company isn't living up to its mission and values, it should not be in practice and should be shutdown. It should be investigated for poor insurance and financial practices.
