blind-sided by a $75 'tip' on a $500 donation. i had it refunded. yeah there was a small box i could've unchecked had i noticed. still, basing the tip on the size of the donation (15%) seems a bit predatory, unregulated capitalism is turning me into a socialist!

Givebutter is a pleasure to use. Campaign pages are beautiful, easy to make, and integrate well with any website. The donor experience is great. The CRM features are simple so far, but have undergone rapid development over the past year. I have high hopes for it. They make some things so much easier than older, more 'fully featured' CRMs. As a system administrator, Givebutter's integration and API features have let me down. I agree with their core philosophy: a strong API and integrations with connection services like Zapier go much further than unmaintainable integrations to all 1000+ possible 3rd party platforms. However, they have really dropped the ball on API documentation. It looks like their API documentation was written once and then never updated as the platform evolved. I've had to stumble through many unexpected field values that have broken our custom integration at inconvenient times. Most frustratingly, I've pleaded with them for over a year to update this information, to no avail. It really is a shame that Givebutter has these issues, because the core functionality is so good. But I really cannot recommend it to organizations that need to connect it with other systems.

Like the core platform, it is easy to set up campaigns and customize them for all our teams. Really, really not a fan of the pricing. The tip model is a horrendous user experience for your donors, and let's be real people are just tipped out. So for us we ask our donors to pay the fees, which are fairly high. The worst part is that they are doing a double whammy, asking for you to pay premium fees on a per contact basis for decent reporting and other features. The customers here are non-profits way to go to line the pockets of the Givebutter team. Update based on Givebutter reply: So here is my feedback. For those that want to use tipping, continue that model and offer the Givebutter plus as an upgrade fee. For those like us, just offer a single pay model. Included the Givebutter plus features in the fees paid during a transaction. Charging 6% is a pretty hefty fee. To then be looking for more fees with Givebutter Plus isn’t very cool for low resource non-profits. For example, the basic reporting is pretty bad, you can’t view custom fields in the basic view, you need to run the full report and download to see them.

Edit: I want to state that the Customer Service was very responsive and easy to communicate with. I have received a full refund and for that reason I will try to increase the rating. I still think it’s a bad business practice. Tipping got out of control and soon we may start tipping credit card companies and IRS. When I want to make a donation to a ministry or a non-profit, I don’t want to have to tip anyone or pay any fees. I want most of my money to go directly to the recipient. Simple as that. I wanted to donate $500 to a non-profit I support. I was in a hurry and didn't notice the fees and tip that GiveButter added. I ended up being charged $584.99! I requested a full refund and was told it may take a week. I will never make any donation through their site again. Ever.
