Don't buy Gazelle. Despite the fact that I've been carrying a 7.5lb bike lock in the water bottle holder of my Eclipse bike for the past 2 years, they won't let me run a Powermore battery that only weighs 3.3lbs, because they're concerned it might fall off. Yes, 2 years and a bike lock that weighs twice the weight. Their solution, and I have the email to prove it, is to CARRY AN ENTIRE 9LB 750 POWERTUBE IN MY PANNIER! That's right. Too dangerous to mount a 3lb battery, but apparently not dangerous to carry a 9lb battery in a pannier (let's remember, there's no pannier that would properly fit a battery, so you'd have to make your own). $6,000 for a bike that they won't let me run with an extra battery, for my safety, by recommending me to do the most unsafe thing ever. This review is solely based on fit and finish as the two bikes in question only have 12 km on them. First bike, Arroyo C5 that has a less than desirable finish on the inner mono fork. It appears the factory did not smooth the material out before paint as visible seams are present. Having said that, all such models with a mono shock seem to have the same issue. The rear plastic fender also is deformed (not due to transport). The second bike, Ultimate 380 smart system has a paint blister on the dual suspension fork that is approximately 5mm in diameter. For a company that boasts about a world class paint facility, they have clearly dropped the ball in more ways than one. What's interesting is I had previously purchased the Ultimate 380 (non smart system) but also had a paint issue with burnishing not only on 1 bike but 2. This was witnessed at the dealer right out of the box. I thought I could solve the issue by up selling myself to the tune of $1,900, but sadly no such luck. One would think such deficiencies would be caught after paint or perhaps final inspection before being boxed and sent out. I would suggest anyone interested in the Gazelle line, take a hard look at the bike before finalizing the transaction. In my opinion, if you're looking for a tier 1 e bike, consider Riese and Muller. A bit more expensive, but true craftmanship and quality is visible throughout their entire line.

Bike display went blank after my first ride and nobody has been able to fix it. Their dealer network is clueless. It's been in the shop for weeks.

The handlebar control pad for the bike stopped working two weeks after purchase. This caused the e-bike to suddenly turn off mid ride. Brought it into the shop and was told it needed software updates. Shop performed the update. Bike worked for two days and controller stopped working mid ride again. Now we are waiting for Royal Dutch to "approve" a replacement controller, send it to the shop and have it replaced. All of this on a brand-new bike. It should not be a question that this should be fixed/replaced. Why would you build a bike that can turn off mid ride because it needs an update?? Very disappointed. Would not recommend.
