I booked a ticket to China in Dec. 2019, the flight date is in early Apr. 2020. Because of the 2019-nCoV epidemic in China, the airline posted several news, one of them is "Airline offers free refund if the tickets have been purchased before 0:00 on January 28, 2020 and the flight departure date after January 28 (include January 28), 2020", I called airline to confirm, they said "yes, your ticket can be refund full amount anytime before the departure time". Then I called Farescan try to verify, Farescan's representative said that they will charge me $250 fee if I cancel my ticket. Then I email the screenshot of the airline news to them, but they still said "No, it will be charged $250 cancellation fee". Then I called airline again to report it, I guess the airline contacted with Farescan. After several days I called Farescan again, this time the representative was EXTREMELY MEAN to me. He said I can cancel the ticket but they will not refund $180 taxes and fees, they only refund the base fare. I talked to this representative twice about the refund, he handed up the phone in the second time, then I have no choice to call airline again, they said they will take care of my situation, I guess they contacted with Farescan, finally Farescan agreed to refund the whole amount. But I did not get the money back yet (it will take 3-8 weeks), so I cannot provide more detail information in this review as I am afraid if farescan saw my review, they will not refund to me. I booked the ticket from Farescan through Kayak website, farescan's airfare was cheaper than airline website, but Farescan charged seats assignment fee, so end it up, it was not much difference at all. Plus their service is the worst I ever had. Actually I was just try to verify with Farescan that I can get fully amount refund if the epidemic is getting worse in April at beginning. But they made the simple thing complicated plus their worse service made me decided to cancel my ticket with them. I will never ever book ticket with them at all.

I booked a flight to Australia via China Eastern through farescan. However, I had a layover and Shanghai and due to the coronavirus outbreak I contacted China Eastern Airlines directly 3 weeks ago to inquire about receiving a refund. The airline informed me that because I booked through a third party travel site I would have to contact them for my flight refund but that the airline sent out a memo to all the travel agencies that they are to refund ALL flights to China and the neighboring countries. They told me that the airline was not charging a cancelling fee themselves but that third party agencies might because of the taxes they have to pay in order to offer reduced flights. I called fare scan’s customer service 3 times and experienced extremely long wait times and was never able to get through to an agent via phone. I too became very concerned when I came online and read reviews about them being scammers. However I emailed the company in a last hopes attempt and they got back to me the next day. They informed me that they could process my refund on the $770 flight but that there would be a separate service charge of $50. I received my refund yesterday, in less than 3 weeks thankfully. I am giving them three stars because they gave me a hard time while trying to get in contact with them and I had to email them the same email multiple times in order to make sure my refund was processed. However they did refund my money and the service charge was not too excessive, so my advice to those who are having refund issues and are scared that they are being scammed is to just email email email until you get a response because I believe the issue is that they are receiving a lot of traffic due to the outbreak and everyone trying to get their flights refunded and certain claims are getting lost in the shuffle.

Saving a few dollars is NOT WORTHWHILE to use this company, so please refrain yourself from buying any ticket from FareScan. I bought 2 tickets China Eastern from LA to Seoul via Shanghai in March 2020, but due to CoronaVirus I request refund, knowing China Eastern would provide full refund. I paid $754.50 for 2 tickets but they only plan to refund me $604.50. The difference of $150 is due to some obscure "non-refundable" tax they have to pay which I never heard of. It's been 2 weeks and still not received refund yet. I called them today, and they said it would take upto 30-40 working days, which means 6 to 8 wks!!! I'm not sure even that is guaranteed. I rarely write any review unless it's positive, but I had to rate this company to avoid any further monetary damage from others.

Surprising to see all the negative comments. I dealt with them recently when purchasing three tickets from New York's JFK to Adelaide, Australia and found the experience to be very good. Initially, I had booked with them online not realizing that I had just purchased 3 "carryon only" tickets. Yikes... at that point I was expecting major problems, but I called them and they agreed to amend the ticket, albeit at a higher price, to allow one carryon and two pieces of luggage per ticketed customer. It was a Qantas flight with two quick stops in LA and Melbourne at a price of recall $1,200 per ticket...about $300 less than other vendors and $600 less than Qantas' offering. I later called Qantas directly and was able to upgrade to exit aisle seating (roundtrip) for the two long legs of the trip, again at a small upgrade cost, but well worth it when flying half way around the world. There is calculated risk when buying "no return" tickets. These companies are able to offer considerably lower prices due to high volume sales while relying on a final, no return policy to assure a certain degree of predictability..... it's just a factor the customer needs to consider.

Run away from this scammers!

Because of the corona-virus I have to cancel the flight to China, but they want to charge me $150 for the cancellation fee, when I asked why is $150? then they tried offer me $100, after 10 seconds they offer me even $75. I asked his name and he hang up on me. I wish I can give zero star for this company. Stay away from this company.

My airline canceled the return flight.. I found out through the grapevine, this company didn’t even contact me about the flight cancellation... I have been trying to contact them for over a week about it, they keep saying “they will get back to me” but no one ever does. My flight going out is next week, am I just supposed to be stranded in a different country? Farescan? More like farescam. Can’t get through, no one replies, and no one is helpful. I’m willing to change this review if the issue gets resolved.

Hi everyone, I had a great experience with FareScan just now. Anyone who are trying to reach them for cancelling flights due to CoronaVirus, you just need to be patiently wait till they pick up the phone. I waited almost 2 hours on hold, but they finally picked up and have been able to cancel my flight with China Eastern to Cambodia which lay over was at Shanghai. I booked my flight in Dec 2019. My flight was $334, I got $304 back! $30 tax was taken away from FareScan. My telephone support person (Jazzy) was very helpful and was great customer service. I assume they are very busy with the people who are trying to cancel flights because of the Corona Virus. Don't give up staying on hold until they pick up your call. =)
