Cracked Cork Grip After Only Five Hikes – Warranty Claim Rejected
I am very disappointed with my experience with Black Diamond Equipment. The cork grip on my trekking pole developed a visible crack after approximately five hikes under normal conditions. I contacted the warranty team because I believe this is premature deterioration for a product from a premium outdoor brand. Unfortunately, my warranty claim was repeatedly rejected. The company maintained that the crack was a natural characteristic of cork, rather than a material or manufacturing defect. Despite explaining the very limited use of the pole and asking for a more specific technical justification, I received no satisfactory explanation. The final response simply stated that their original decision would stand. The only alternative offered was a 30% discount on a future purchase, which I do not consider an adequate solution for a product that I believe deteriorated prematurely. What disappointed me most was not just the damaged grip, but the lack of a satisfactory resolution after several attempts to address the issue. I expected better customer support and a more customer-oriented approach from a brand with Black Diamond's reputation. Based on my experience, I would encourage potential customers to consider how warranty claims are handled, particularly when a product develops a problem after very limited use.
