Long waiting time to get my RV although no queue.
Generator broke down, had to have it repaired and then stops with only air conditioning on.
Front left panel almost tore off

Thank you for sharing your experience. We understand how frustrating it was to face a lengthy pickup delay and then encounter generator and vehicle-condition issues during your trip. Your comments regarding the preparation and maintenance of the RV have been shared with our team for review.

Exploded tire leads to customer solving it without good service from El Monte
We rented an RV the last weeks from Denver to your Seattle office. RV number P-255260. Booking VYO835713-1
We had a very nice trip but unfortunately some hickups of which one causes a bit of an unpleasant aftertaste while being home.
We were promised the RV would be max 2 years old. The RV we got in Denver felt older already. It was not the RV we rented originally, but we did not complain and accepted it. The RV had some damages on the outside and during the roadtrip we noticed several unfortunate things:
- The freezer was not cooling enough and all our food was melting. We reported it but it could not be solved. We bought bags of ice to cool the food. This was reimbursed in Seattle office as promised by Road Support.
- There was water leaking in the RV. It could not be solved and we bought towels to clean up the mess. The extra towel be bought was also reimbursed.
- The city water connection was leaking a lot and some campgrounds made complaints about it. A different pressure regulator improved the situation, but not totally.
- The door to the RV was not closing well and could spontaneous open during driving! During the last days we heard the door and had to pull the door to ‘lock’ again from the inside while driving.
The main issue however a damaged (exploded) tire (inner right backside):
- Around 12.30 on July 23rd, it happened all of a sudden on Highway 2 on our way from Glacier National Park to Coeur d’Alene. After a short contact On Road Care, we drove a few mile on 1 tire less at slow speed to a day parking where we could park safely (after paying).
- After safe parking we contacted On road care again and they escalated the issue to Ford Roadside service. The case manager Veronica helped us very well.
- Ford Roadside Service called us around 12.30 to explain that there is no (free included) service available anymore on that day and we had to wait until the next day in the morning. That was not really acceptable, sleeping at a parking lot and delaying our holiday. The alternative was that a third party would come to help us and we would need to pay for the tire change. Veronica from On Road Care called us as well with that information and found a suitable company in Kalispell. Joe’s Towing could come but we needed to call Joe and give him approval for the cost of $ 650,-. This was a fair price as Veronica told us, since they had to drive 1 hour to reach us from Kalispell. Veronica also told us to document everything and share pictures, which we did. We even saved the broken tire until the Seatlle office where we would be reimbursed. This was discussed with her supervisor as there was no alternative available.
- We decided to do this and waited for another hour for Joe’s Towing to arrive. After 1,5 hours the RV was ready to drive again, we paid $ 650,- and continued our trip. All photos were send to On Road Care USA.
- Next day, we got a message from Ford Roadside Service that Joe’s Roadside Assistance would come at 8 am to fix the RV. This was not needed anymore. I looked it up, the address and phone number were the same. In other words, the same company that had ‘no time’ to come on request of Ford RoadSide Service did had time to come when we paid them $ 650,- ! That call was cancelled after me reaching out to Ford Roadside Service and On Road Care, since we were helped and not at that location anymore.
- We got after the tire exchange tire pressure sensor messages. The On Road Care could not help us to reset the sensor, and since the pressure was fine (checked by Joe when changing the tire), we continued our trip. The sensor of the original tire (which was hanging at the spot of the spare tire), was sending bad information to the board computer (is my assumption).
- In the Seattle office it took some time to explain the situation and a phone call of the local manager (Dirk Saager) to the On Road Care team to get the situation clear that we needed to be reimbursed for the $ 650,-.
- When that was clear, we got the message that we had to pay for the damaged tire. Attached is the invoice of the tire ($ 333.60)…
We think paying a tire that exploded during a normal drive is not normal and totally not fair. The tire is a wear and tear part. Maybe tires were already in a bad shape when we left Denver. Nobody can nor checked the inner tires of the RV.
Contacting the guest services about this complaint has not resulted in any reaction from El Monte. This is not what I would call good service. We would not recommend El Monte in the future.

Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed account of your experience. We’re glad you were still able to enjoy much of your trip, but we understand how the vehicle issues, roadside delays, tire replacement, and subsequent charge left you disappointed with the way the situation was handled. Since you have already reached out regarding this matter, we will bring your concerns back to our management team for further review, including the tire charge and the communication surrounding your reimbursement.

Not worth the extra money!
We had a mixed experience with El Monte, some of the experience was good, and as should be expected, other where very bad and completly i acceptable.
I would only recomend El Monte to be used, if you have no other options, the extra price tag vs other RV rentals, is not well spent.
The consition of the RV was extremly bad, it was clearly used and most of the interior was in one way or another damaged.
The drivning of the RV was bad, the quality of the drivning experience was not worth the extra money, and the service of the truck was also not very well done.
The onroad service that El Monte is providing... Is a joke, its just for show, because its not working and you have to push them for a reply, and then they send you to a wrong place to get it fixed.
We got 5 days returned, but the extra money we paid vs other rentals, is NOT worth it!

3rd RV after 3 days, never again
Summary:
We have selected El Monte for our RV - Class C large - rental because we have expected to get an RV in a good and inspected condition with excellent customer service, especially for a rental period of 6 weeks (March 26 – May 5). DMP 082148-1
However, we have been very disappointed and will not return to El Monte Santa Fe Springs for another rental in the future.
The first RV had technical problems (ABS system) right at the start and the replacement RV was handed over with a non-working fridge/freezer resulting in returning to El Monte for another vehicle change. The third RV did work but it was obvious that this RV also was not properly checked and prepared as tools were missing and furnishings had defects.
Details:
Because of our rental period of 6 weeks we have asked El Monte for a newer model and it was confirmed on phone that a Sunseeker 2026 model is reserved.
Arriving at Santa Fe Springs, we were surprised, that an elder Thor model was prepared for us and it was clearly stated that a newer RV is not available.
Then we have inspected the RV and have noted that the mattress was in an awful condition (dirty, saggy). After checking with the management, we have been informed that the mattress will be replaced against a newer one.
Then ready for leaving, we have started the motor and were shocked that the ABS control lamp was flashing indicating that the brake system is not working properly.
Back to the office, the RV was brought to the garage and after another hour we have been told that the RV has to be replaced...
Surprisingly we have got the information that a 2026 Sunseeker will be prepared for us. More than 4 hours after arrival at El Monte the replacement RV (Size large family sleeper marked with Road Bear brand) was ready for leaving. The briefing was kept very short and – stressed and very tired- we have left El Monte for buying food and driving to the first campground.
Now the nightmare continued: in the evening and also first morning (Friday) we have realized that the fridge/freezer does not work (zero cooling, instead warm) although the control panel has shown no failures.
What to do? We have called the on-road assistance first time, a friendly person asked us to switch of the fridge for 12 hours. In the evening no change, fridge still defect.
Another call: El Monte will provide technical on-site support, but hours later we have been informed that no support is available, instead we should by a camping fridge and the support can be organized at a later opportunity.
We have denied this offer, instead we have requested to return to El Monte for fridge repair/replacement of RV replacement which was confirmed. In the meantime, we had to scrap food not being cooled properly.
So, on day 4 of our journey we returned to El Monte getting confirmation that the RV must be replaced, after 3 hours we've got the third RV and we re-started our holidays.
Luckily the RV was fully functional and stable until the end of our holidays, however we have noted failures which should have been detected by El Monte before handing over:
Missing front curtain (behind driver, co-driver seats), broom and basket (present in the 2nd RV)
AC circuit was switched off (leakage current detection switch)
Toilet seat loosen, washroom doorknob loosen, magnetic door holder loosen
shower curtain holder broken, stove cover bended.
Final note: we booked a one-way rental from Santa FE Springs to Dublin.
Our experience in Dublin was much better:
The technical staff was very open to get information about RV problems and noted all of our findings and the management was competent to find a financial compensation which satisfied our expectation. Therefore 2 stars instead of 1.

Hello,
Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback. We’re glad to hear the Dublin team was helpful, listened to your concerns, and was able to provide a resolution that met your expectations.
We’re very sorry, however, that your rental began with multiple vehicle issues and that the preparation and service at pick-up did not meet expectations. That is not the level of reliability or customer care we aim to provide, especially for an extended rental.
We appreciate you bringing these concerns to our attention. Please contact our Guest Services team so they can review this further and ensure your feedback is properly addressed.

Very disappointing RV rental experience…
Very disappointing RV rental experience and poor customer service.
We rented a Class C Large RV through Tioga Tours for a 19-day family trip in August 2025. We were instructed to arrive at 11:00 AM, but due to poor organization and apparent understaffing, our RV was not ready until 4:30 PM.
When we finally received the vehicle, it was dirty, worn, and clearly not well maintained. We requested a replacement, but were told none were available. Since we had campground reservations and the office was about to close, we had no realistic alternative.
Once on the road, the RV required constant steering corrections to stay in its lane, and the front roof vent rattled loudly while driving. At the end of the trip, the right front tire showed severe uneven wear, indicating a significant alignment problem that had clearly existed before our rental.
El Monte advertises clean, well-maintained, and reliable RVs. Unfortunately, that was not our experience.
We reported the issues and spent months discussing the matter with THL, the parent company of El Monte and Road Bear. Despite paying approximately $8,000 for the rental, we ultimately received only $400 in compensation. The initial offer was just $80.
We paid a premium price but received a vehicle that did not meet reasonable expectations for safety, maintenance, or quality. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend El Monte RV and likewise for Tioga Tours as their trade partner

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We understand how disappointing it must have been for your trip to begin with such a long delay and for the RV condition and handling to fall short of expectations throughout your rental. We were originally shown 2 types of RV…
We were originally shown 2 types of RV for the class we rented and told by Rose that we would receive one of those two options for our actual rental. On the day of pickup we were given a different model that had far less kitchen storage and counter space and the passenger seat did not recline at all which was uncomfortable. Also the unit had a smoke odor that we did not notice until
later in the day. Once we got underway we began to notice the smell and it was too late to turn back. Also the gentlemen Jesse who did our instruction tour was extremely rude and unhelpful. He seemed annoyed when I asked questions and was in a rush to get our tour over with. He provided terrible service. Also the potable water hose leaked so I could not leave it hooked up and had to keep refilling the freshwater tank. Additionally the sensors that show the tank levels were not working properly. These are several very easily resolved issues that we hope will be addressed in the future.

We’re sorry to hear you experienced mechanical issues during your trip. That’s not the level of reliability we aim to provide, and we understand how disruptive this must have been.
We want to review how this unit was prepared and reinforce our maintenance checks to help prevent similar issues for future guests. If you’d like to share more details, please email [email protected]—your feedback helps us improve.
