Value that you don’t know is there until you use it!
We have struggled with regular pet vet visits in the past. Even with pet insurance we still had to come out of pocket with some big expenses that were not covered or paying the deductibles. I found Dutch through online web surfing and the idea of having an online vet peaked my curiosity and I clicked through to find out more about it. At that time I didn’t even know online veterinary care existed. I was so amazed at the level of services that they were able to offer. I was still skeptical though. I was concerned that the lack of an in-person hands on examination would possibly hinder the quality of care my dogs would receive. Being able to get a subscription at an introductory price since ai had clicked through from an ad and the curiosity of the whole experience were the two factors that made me want to try it. I figured that if I was disappointed, I could just go back to paying through the nose at my in-person vet clinic like I was already doing. So first, let me say that my dogs are my children. They have always been fairly healthy with a few minor “OMG!” moments in their lives (getting a hold of a candy bar). So outside of their routine visits for boosters and a wellness check, I have had to take them to in person appointments and I can effectively say that there has never been one of those appointments where I spent out of pocket less than $400. This year alone, we’ve had 2 minor “OMG!” moments where both of my daughters needed care for their pups (oh yeah btw with Dutch it covers immediate family up to 4 dogs) and with the yearly subscription I purchase, we spent a total of $175 of which $80 of that was for regular wellness medication for flea chews and that was because we got the big package because we had 3 of our all around the same weight. As for visit prescriptions, I think we saved about half of what we would have spent on prescriptions and we didn’t have to pay the visit fee like an in person appointment would have cost. The very first time we did need to use Dutch, blew me away! First, you can’t even get through to talk to a vet after booking the appointment (same day within 3 hours and it’s a 15-20 min appointment) until you take clear pictures of your pet at the different angles that the site requires. There is the alleviated part of the physical exam I had concern over going right out the door. They aren’t just some cute pet parent brag photos that they are wanting! They are thorough full body snapshots that you have to really bribe your pet to get. Plus any extras that may be needed of affected areas that the visit is for. That part right there eased my mind, but the flip side of the entire experience was the blow my mind part that has made me a Dutch client for as long as I need vet care. The bottom line spend! That part! It’s the little angel wings that they wear but you don’t see until you actually utilize the services. Now I’m fully aware that some things are just not meant for online vet care and in person is unavoidable. However, what if you’re not sure—you know it’s not life threatening, but you also know that you need to care for your pet. You question whether or not it is something that is severe enough for in person care. In comes Dutch! The ease in getting a same day appointment is phenomenal! The piece of mind is that it is a licensed vet who will help you with the process of knowing if it’s necessary for an in person visit. If it is a medical issue that is treatable through home care, the DVMs at Dutch will guide you through with the best interest of your pet at heart not making a buck! Dutch is an innovative and well thought out service that takes a lot of the stressors out of in person care. No traveling with an already overwhelmed pet, no stressors or problems with the office and interactions that can arise with other pets there, and the fact that there is office visit payment needed, (subscription level dependent). Overall, the majority of pet owner visits are made in moments of mishaps. Knowing that you have a vet at your fingertips to help with treatment or help you understand the situation and the need for in person if it warrants, has been the best thing for my doggies, my grand pups and my daughters over the last year. My renewal is coming up and I have every intention to renew it. My babies are 11 & 12 years old now and I expect that age related changes are coming so having Dutch will make me feel more confident as I navigate that with them. It is a valuable asset for any pet owner. They have so many other products they offer that I haven’t had the opportunity to use but it is really nice for so many things to be offered in one or two clicks!
