Defense Tax acts like they have your best interest but just want your money. First they acted like they were local and the were not. Second they promised to immediately work on case and they didnt Lastly, they never answer, calls text or emails but pressure ypu for payment right off. Do not let this company scame you.

Went into an agreement with this company back in August 2024. As July 8 2026 nothing was done but drained me of $17k avoided most of my phone calls emails and text messages. And was passed of 3 times to different case workers. Now I'm out of work since they didnt live up to their agreement.. Fender Martin calls me and threaten me not to reach out to this company anymore and if I do a police report will be made🤔😡🤬. Take my money and threaten me really?!?! Oh ok. I started talking to Jeff Casperson from Defense Tax sometime in 2020. An accountant was still preparing my taxes at the time, so I couldn’t hire Defense Tax yet. Jeff continued to check in about once a month. At some point during those phone calls, Jeff said Defense Tax would likely be able to get the debt down to “5%”. I thought to myself he was obviously overselling the service, but if he was willing to throw numbers like 5% around, the reduction would be substantial. I would hire Defense Tax in 2021. The first person I dealt with after hiring Defense Tax was a woman named Carla Sterling, and what followed was months of not hearing from anyone from Defense Tax, peppered by urgent emails requesting information in a seemingly nonsensical order, with no answers as to what was going on, or where in the process I was. After over a year of this, my frustration grew to the point where I no longer wanted to deal with Carla. That’s when I was turned over to a man named Joel Lockhart. In the rare instances I spoke to Joel, it didn’t take long for him to tell me “That’s not how this works.” in reference to my debt being reduced. He indicated that the best I could hope for was a “Can Not Collect” status from the IRS. Keep in mind that the first thing you see on Defense Tax’s website is a section called “Why Call Us?”. The first bullet point in that section says, “Settle Your IRS Tax Debt for a fraction owed”, followed by “Remove Interest Charges and Penalties”. I’d like to know how many people are told “5%” by someone like Jeff, only to be told years later by someone like Carla or Joel that that’s “Not how this works.”? In 2023, Joel emailed me to tell me that my “CNC” had been approved. I spoke to him one more time after that, and I asked him if Defense Tax had even tried to get me an “Offer in Compromise”. He indicated that they hadn’t, and upon my insistence, since that was the entire point of this whole thing, he told me he would. I let the now typical months go by with no update before I emailed him again. Nothing. I called. Nothing. Joel had put me on a Pay No Mind list. I called the Defense Tax website number one more time, and asked to speak to a supervisor. I was told no supervisor was available. When I said I’d wait, the person who I was talking to said they wouldn’t, and I was told a supervisor would call me back. They didn’t. It’s now almost four years since I hired Defensive Tax. In that time, the interest and penalties on the debt have gone up thousands of dollars. Defense Tax has not done what they promised to do, both by Jeff and their own website, and they didn’t even have the spine to tell me that, as far as they are concerned, services had been rendered.

Charged for processing, partially completed contracted returns and now no communication and no returns.

I would give them 10 stars if I could. I highly recommend if you are filing bankruptcy or if your taxes are a mess because your getting divorced these are the people to get ahold of. They resolved my "obligation" to my ex-husbands tax debt and helped me sort thru what was left of the taxes I owed after my bankruptcy. Great bunch of people. Thanks guys I truly appreciate you.
