Curable claims to manage & reduce pain. 6 months in, hasn't helped
This app's claim to manage and reduce pain feels like snake oil. Curable touts itself as a way to manage and reduce chronic pain. It uses a psychological approaches to supposedly address the underlying cause (or fuel) for long-term pain: stuff like depression, anxiety and fear of the pain itself, or hyper-vigilance from things like violent trauma. Curable's methods aren't doing it for me. My pain has not changed during six months of using the app. I've been meditating, learning, writing. The app says these "exercises" will re-train my brain to stop hyper-fixating on the pain, which only makes pain worse. But the techniques the app uses are what I'd call abstract and not helpful in any way. I'm frequently asked to picture myself in "stress free" places like the beach. Or to write a letter to someone I've been made at for a long time, but not to mail it. It's meant to be a therapeutic kind of letting go. It wasn't a terrible thing to do, but I also don't feel like it did anything to help me reduce my fibromyalgia and joint pains. Curable claims many people find relief in 6 to 9 weeks. I'm now into 6 months of doing these things, and I don't feel any mentally or physically different. If I had known this app was going to be alot of deep breathing and mediation, I could have found a free app for that.
