I used to host a few years ago, met some great people and helped with their travels. But the site wants to charge me for doing so, so I chose the option to delete my account. I can see why surfers should pay a small sum, but not hosts. Goodbye Couch surfing.

Seriös geht anders! Vor vielen Jahren war chouchsurfing ein sehr gutes Portal für private Unterkünfte weltweit, war kostenlos und wurde von 1000en Supportern gepflegt! Dann wurde es von 2 Amerikanern gestohlen! Nun ist es teuer und betrügt, denn erst einmal muss man eine Eintrittsgebühr bezahlen, und dann soll man sich verifizieren, wobei dann mal ebenso, ohne es näher zu erwähnen weitere 53€ vom Konto oder der Kreditkarte abgebucht werden sollen. Ich nenne das Betrug. Man kann natürlich auch sagen typisch US-Amerikanisch! Schade, die Seite war früher richtig gut, heutzutage schaut es mehr nach Karteileichen aus (Ich fand schon über 30 Profile von Leuten, die auf der Seite seit vielen Jahren nicht mehr aktiv sind.

If I could give the app a zero I would do it. Fux couchsurfing. They took 60 Euro’s even though I didn’t authorized them. They are scammers! Don’t use the app.

I used these guys many years ago but only to host guests. It was amazing meeting people. Now I've tried to use it for myself. I went to verify myself as that's generally a safe and honest way to have an online profile. But their verification strangely asks for credit card or PayPal. Which I thought was weird but went with it. Little did I know they were charging me $102 to verify! Who charges to verify? This is the first website that I heard of that profits from giving you verification tick. Regardless of them also taking donation money to keep the site active. I tried contacting them immediately to get a refund and remove the verification (because you don't need it) but they've made a new policy that if you verify yourself and didn't realise you had to pay, there's no refunds. So it's a sly way of making some additional profit, disgusting. Also, 90% of people haven't even logged into the website in years! It's useless.

Do not download this app or sign up for this app. They are total scammers. Once you have your account set up they will ask if you want to verify your account. They will offer you two options. With two buttons. One is verified through Facebook and the other one says verify with credit card. Being that the Facebook verification would be free I assumed that they would only verify my Couchsurfing account using my credit card information, free of charge. It was not transparent that they would charge $60 once I hit that button. I asked for Couchsurfing to reimburse that and they denied my request. I am having to dispute it through my credit card now. This apparently is a very common problem because I see it all over the internet. I think couch surfing started out as a reputable app and it has turned into a greedy money grab.

Instead of charging me $2.99 for one month, they charged me $2.99 + $60 + $60 = $122.99. They claimed that I must have came across a page that stated $60, but never noticed it. They do not respond when I tell them that 3 different charges is not correct. I will be reporting them to law enforcement and reporting them to my bank as fraud.
