Initial contact with Coastal was positive, with a reasonable quote. The representative said that the same Coastal crew would pick up and deliver our items. Things quickly went downhill after we paid our deposit. Communication broke down and there were multiple delays, including not showing up or contacting us on us the scheduled day of pick up. Upon arrival of the crew, the quoted price increased by nearly $3,800 despite the fact that our inventory had decreased by a small amount. At this point, we felt trapped since we had already paid a sizable deposit. The delivery of our furniture came with additional pricing surprises. The local crew said that they were unable to get into our driveway so they needed to offload our items into a smaller truck. This cost us an additional $1400+ dollars. The price of our move ended up totaling over $14,000. Since they would only accept cash, this left us scrambling on a Sunday to scrape up the money. Several items were damaged, including a large expensive desk and vehicle roof rack that were destroyed. These items along with all of the trash were left with us. We also learned that coastal is a broker and passed our move off to another company. The entire process felt like extortion. Please do not use this vendor under any circumstances.

Spoke to a rep named Jesse who laid on a thick sales pitch and landed on a total amount for the move. Told me we could reach him anytime if we needed anything at all. Moving day arrived and they jacked the price up another $1,000+ and I tried to reach Jesse 4-5 times and he would never answer, call back or offer any help. This company is a SCAM!!! Stay away from them. They lie and only want to take your money. They also broke about 6 items that were moved. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

Coastal Moving Services scammed me, my roommate and our families when we moved back in with them. They charged us half of the estimated total when we made our initial deposit, although it's not supposed to be more than 1/3. We requested a day to move (8/28) because it was the day before I had to fly out for a wedding, but they listed the next day (8/29), the day I flew out as a backup day. My roommate's mom left several voicemails and I sent a text to Aiden saying that I wouldn't be able to do the backup day. But they confirmed the backup day (8/29) for our move. Most importantly, on arriving to move us, they now demanded that we pay twice the fee that they had mentioned in their bid, raising their bill from roughly $2,000 to about $4,000. Coastal had no reasonable justification for doubling their fee. This left us with a terrible choice: to refuse Coastal's exhorbiant new terms or to delay our move to whatever later moving day we could arrange with another mover, hoping that our landlord would allow a delay. It was basically extortion. In the end we found another mover (M & M Moving) that moved us for about $2000. They did a fine job. (We highly recommend M&M!) Our landlord charged us for the delay that Coastal forced on us. And Coastal has so far refused to return our deposit, although it was them, not us, who prevented the move by unilaterally changing its terms. Costal's conduct was outrageous.

I contacted Coastal Moving Services for an urgent, last-minute cross-country move. During the initial consultation with customer representative Patrick Sweet, I was explicitly promised a crew of five movers and a 26-foot truck, to arrive by the end of that day or the following morning. When I explained that the existing moving crew was not completing the project, and therefore I could not provide a detailed inventory of items to be moved, Mr. Sweet stated, "Just tell me the ten largest things you might think it will be, it doesn't really matter." This statement was demonstrably false and misleading. In reliance on it, I provided an incomplete list of items, understanding that an accurate itemization was not required for an accurate estimate. It was a fraudulent inducement that got me to sign the contract. The promises made by Coastal Moving Services were not upheld. As these statements and promises were not upheld, I am formally requesting the reversal of the deposit transaction. Fraudulent Misrepresentation: o The estimate was based on an incomplete and potentially inaccurate list o Movers did not show up until the following night when a verbal guarantee was given that they would show up that evening or the next morning. You state they promised to provide a 26-foot truck, but the truck that arrived was only half full. If the contract explicitly stated a full 26-foot truck would be provided (or its equivalent in space), this could be a breach. Breach of Verbal Commitment: Number of Movers The agreement was for five movers, but only three arrived. This is a direct violation of the agreed-upon terms, assuming the contract specified the number of movers. Leveraging a Vulnerable Position: Took advantage of your situation to offer a new estimate that was 150% higher. This could be considered an unethical business practice, especially if the original estimate was knowingly inaccurate.
