Cigna can and will fight you every step, every appointment, every medical expense of the way to make sure you have to pay for virtually everything out of pocket on your own. Both my husband and I have Cigna now (we don't have any choice it's what our employers offer) and we just don't go to the doctor because we know that Cigna will ding us for something. I've had multiple occasions where I would call and verify to make sure something would be covered (and be told yes it would) only to receive a huge bill in the mail. Please if you have a choice do not go with Cigna, it's the most stressful insurance experience I've ever had. It's almost better to not have insurance so you know what to expect.

My wife spoke with someone named Oscar about a claim that was denied based on it having been submitted under her married name instead of her maiden name. Oscar was incredibly rude and condescending, and her interaction with him was one of the worst examples of customer service that I've seen in recent years. We'll likely need to call back, as Oscar ultimately failed to help us, and I sincerely hope that our interaction with him is not representative of Cigna's customer service at large.

CIGNA is absolutely ripping off people. Its the worst health insurance company we had to deal with. I had urged them to explain why I had to pay out of pocket in year 2020, despite our deductible was met. The calls get directed to South America. Some customer reps have a thick accent and very hard to understand. I wanted to talk to supervisor. I was kept on hold for 40 minutes and then they disconnected me. I called back again, they again kept me on hold for 35 minutes saying that the supervisor will be in here shortly. Not acceptable. Finally, I got to talk to a supervisor after 1 hour 20 minutes. Its very very hard to get hold of customer service.

Refuse this healthcare if your company offers it! My wife had 2 surgeries followed by 2 chemotherapies for her cancer. As some celles were resisting, doctors recommended genetical analysis to spot possible better treatment. They refused to cover it and we entered months of discussion. Finally they offered external medical consulting paid by them. The 2 external consultants concluded it was beneficial to do this genetical anlysis so they finally accepted to cover 80% of it after months of discussion. We did it then left south america for France. My wife first received a radiotherapy for the head as the cancer was expanding now to the head. Then the insitute for cancer stated she needed a chemotherapy and CIGNA required additional documents from the doctor to accept to cover this chemotherapy like it was new (remember she had 2 chemotherapies CIGNA covered w/o any problem before). They are doing their best to delay everything and the result is that my wife is pending her chemotherapy since 1 month until we can collect all documents required by them: basically they ask the doctor to write what she has and which treatment she needs like if it was something new my wife has a cancer!!! The customer service is terrible: they send you the same message again and again : "we are here to help you... please provide following documents" and when you tell them ok, so please send me a message telling you are covering this treatment, they send you again the same message: "we are here to help you... please provide following documents" My wife's status is degrading week after week and CIGNA is still refusing to cover the treatment without us providing more and more documents. The big mystery is why they accepted to cover 2 chemotherapies before and now they refuse to cover another chemotherapy w/o new documents??? STAY AWAY FROM THEM!!! Trust the reviews written by customers. I am not sure how Cigna got an A+ in BBB but I file my complaint there. Summary: if you have a choice, pick another insurance company. #1. The names of their plan will confuse everyone - staff will ask me what's LocalIN plus, never hear of that. What's EPO? Is that PPO or HMO? #2. Be prepared to appeal. They will reject your claim for treatment ordered by your doctor at a facility approved/suggested by them. Hope your doctor can help. Otherwise, you are on your own. #3. Phone support is almost useless. People on the phone are trying hard to help but their knowledge is limited and they tried to search the web to answer your question. You can try to search their webpages too but good luck - very confusing. #4. Cigna's goal is to make money and not to take care of your health or pay your treatment. They tried their best to not pay and maximize their profit. Look for other better options if you can so you can focus on your health. Take care and be safe.

Absolutely horrible experience with Cigna. Took forever to get through to someone for issues with claims. Still on hold now to talk to someone about confirmation that my son's account was actually cancelled as requested.

They make it very difficult to make a claim. And it is impossible to communicate with them.

I just booked in a medical appointment but the clinic won't accept it due to Cigna owing them money. Now me as the customer has to collect this debt. I just waited 2 hours and 14 minutes on hold trying to sort this before giving up. I wish my work stayed with AXA.
