Signed up for Medicare Supplement Ins
Signed up for Medicare Supplement Ins. in early Dec. and have all ready made the first payment for Jan 2025, but have yet to receive my ins. cards. Have contacted Cigna twice and have assured me the cards are on the way. That's been approx. 2 seeks ago. Where's the customer service. I hope I didn't make a mistake by going with them.

Not serious
Trying to fix an error coming from them for one week now. Supervisors are never available and nobody is giving me explanations.

Decent for routine care, but terrrible for customer service and preauthorizations.
Long detailed review; what you need to know about Cigna.
I've had Cigna health insurance through one of the state exchanges for many years. Here are the Pros and Cons of Cigna:
Pros:
1. Cigna still offers some EPO networks (rather than annoying HMOs) which have many primary care and specialist doctors (but you do have to stay in network). I have been in their "CONNECT" network, which unfortunately has been shrinking providers lately (down about 20%), including all Kroger pharmacies dropping out (possibly since the provider reimbursements aren't great). So be sure to check that your providers are in their network on the Cigna website before switching.
2. For ROUTINE claims (doctors appts., imaging, prescriptions) Cigna pays promptly and sends you an explanation of benefits (EOB) by e-mail or mailed paper. (But terrible for services that require preauthorization - see below). For my "silver" plan through a state exchange, co-pays are very low ($10) for primary care and specialist visits. No formal referrals are required to see a specialist for coverage (but most specialists require a referral anyway from a primary care doc). You can pay monthly by mailed check or on their website by e-check from your bank account (you supply bank routing and acct. numbers), or debit card. However, they told me that they are no longer going to allow credit card payments as of 2025. The website (mycigna) also has your EOBs and the provider list.
HOWEVER, the several cons:
1. You can no longer communicate with Cigna via secure email on the website for any questions. You have to call, and the phone customer service is TERRIBLE, especially if you are connected to a representative in a foreign country, which most of them are. Only the pharmacy reps seem to be in the U.S. Most of the foreign reps are obviously in a "boiler room" with a lot of cross-talk you can hear, and don't speak English very well. Even those that do speak English well don't understand the Cigna benefits or their payment system. Even the so-called "supervisors" are now in a foreign country and don't know much more than the regular reps. These bad reps lied to me about not having doctor's records for a preauthorization (or were just incompetent) until I demanded to talk to a supervisor, who admitted the serious error. And the payment reps gave me contradictory information about credit card payments (while they were still being accepted.)
2. Cigna's automated payment system is so stupid that it will continue to charge your credit card or debit card on file with them (and give you a payment confirmation number) even after the card's expiration date - the charge obviously gets rejected 2-3 days later. If this happens, depending on your selected communication preferences on the mycigna site, they may NOT send you the important notice that your insurance is about to expire - this is very dangerous since you could wind up responsible for thousands of dollars in hospital bills after the one-month grace period. So you may have no idea that your credit card is rejected. If you do delete that payment method on myciga, the payment menu will automatically revert to charging any other old credit or debit card or bank account that you may have used several years before for a Cigna payment- EVEN OLD CARDS WHICH ARE OBVIOUSLY EXPIRED or old bank accounts that may have been closed. They don't tell you that they save all previous payment methods even if you designated them as "one-time payments." They never tell you that to update to a single payment method, you have to manually delete all previous one-time payment methods you used, or else they are still on your payment list! Obviously ridiculous.
3. For years Cigna never sent me several important notices by e-mail, only paper EOBs. BEWARE: if you ask for paper notices to be mailed, you will not get important notices even if you have a mycigna logon & a registered email with them; they will only send those notices by e-mail. I found there were dozens of hidden messages to me on their payment website (which is a different site than mycigna).
4. Cigna's preauthorization system is a disaster, and could cost you a lot of money or even bankrupt you. I don't know if the system is different for any HMOs that they offer, but for PPO/EPO networks the doctor, pharmacy, or imaging center is required by Cigna to obtain preauthorizaiton for dozens of services, WHICH CIGNA DOES NOT NOTIFY THEM OR YOU IN ADVANCE! That is, your doctor can order a CT scan, you have it done, and then Cigna and the imaging center tells you that you owe $1000, because the doctor and imaging center did not get preauthorization. Even if they do get preauthorization, Cigna says they can "retroactively deny" the service after it is provided if they believe it wasn't necessary - just terrible.

Multiple Problems--Avoid Cigna
(1) There is always a long hold when trying to reach Cigna by phone--an average of about45 minutes, just to talk to customer service. (2) Limited choices of in-network doctors. (3) The only hospital in network in my area is the county hospital. (4) I found a PCP that I like, but I was charged my copay AND a facility fee, since her office is associated with a hospital system. So really my copay for a doctor's appointment is $80, not $30.

Cigna customer service is a joke
Cigna customer service; are you serious!!?? A single UK number to call with an option for ‘urgent’ and ‘claim’ issues. That provided a twelve-minute wait (“Please be assured that your call is important to us and your call will be answered by the next available advisor”; what a joke) on an international call but that wait was not the worst of it. I gave ‘Customer Service’ the case reference, my policy number and all security details. I am then given 21 minutes of silence, call still connected, assuming that the advisor is checking on the status of my enquiry. I call back again, 17 minute wait followed by silence. Nothing. This for a simple claim, a one day stay in hospital, and my excess of US$750! Cancelling my policy will pay for this procedure in two months of no premiums. Going back to William Russell.

I was a Cigna customer up until last…
I was a Cigna customer up until last month when they cancel my contract as the payment was not going through due to my change of address that I forgot to update! One month late after being a customer for 2.5years and you get cancelled and this is after you have a $1500/yr for dental but each time you send a claim they reimburse you peanuts if they do not deny your claim! and their service is pretty low quality and totally outdated. overall a ripped off.
