Limited support and guidance
Limited support and guidance. One nutrition rep was non helpful. He kept rambling on and on not answering my questions…thought he knew my questions before my asking. He said if I needed help to email my questions. No thanks, I found another company.

Lexy,
Thank you for sharing this feedback, and I’m very sorry you had that experience — it’s not how we want anyone to feel after reaching out to us.
We are always available to answer any and all questions Monday–Saturday, 8am–5pm PST, and we have veterinary technicians on staff to help with medical and diet-related questions. Our founder, Dr. Susan Bohrer, also offers free consultations to discuss anything food- and nutrition-related. We truly aim to be transparent and to support our clients as best as we can with their pets’ health.
I’m sorry we didn’t reflect that commitment in your interaction, and we appreciate you taking the time to let us know. Please feel free to reach out again if you ever have any questions and we would be happy to help!
Warmly,
The Chi Dog Team

This is my second review for Chi Dog
This is my second review for Chi Dog, it seems i cannot edit/update an existing review. My dog didnt eat the Chi Dog food, sniffed it and that was enough. i reached out to the company for a refund, they refused and then after i said i'll dispute the charge with my credit card company, they issued me a partial refund of (what for it!) 15%, i.e. $20.85. I paid $139. They had responded to my review saying they had issued a partial refund, they are a small company and cannot provide more of a refund, and so i thought it best to make it transparent how much the refund was. Per my research they make ~$5MM in revenue annually.
Update: this food gave my dog diarrhea. They are suggesting other recipes but I have repeatedly told them that my dog is allergic to all their recipes except pork. I really am frustrated by their response. Be careful customers if this food does not work for your dog they won’t help you. Go to Ollie’s, farmers dog, JFFD. I spoke to all of them who advised they would provide a refund and no need to send food back. Is anyone else just frustrated with corporate greed?

Pamela,
We’re truly sorry for your experience. Because our food is perishable, we can’t accept returns or issue full refunds once it ships; we provided a goodwill partial refund and regret it fell short of your expectations. If you’d like, we can still help with picky-eater/transition tips or suggest a different recipe that may suit your dog better. Please reach us at [email protected] or (856) 431-5502—happy to make this right as best we can.
Warmly,

The supplement made my dog worse and I…
The supplement made my dog worse and I had to put her to sleep. I will not recommend thir product to anyone.

Kathy,
We’re truly sorry for your loss.
For clarity, our DIY supplement contains only vitamins and minerals and nothing in it is expected to make a dog sick when used as directed. It’s formulated to be AAFCO-balanced for adult dog nutrition (complete and appropriate when added to the specified home-cooked recipe).
That said, every dog is unique, and underlying conditions or sensitivities can affect responses to any product. If you’re willing, please contact us at [email protected] with the order and lot number so our veterinary team can review the case and file an adverse event report. We take this very seriously and want to help in any way we can.
Warmly,

My dog was in horrible GI distress after eating
I found Chi Dog while searching for a meal plan for my Chiweenie who is fat intolerant and has chronic GI upset. Despite an unusual burst of energy immediately following her first serving of Fire Diet, later she became incredibly restless and paced through the house in distress overnight. Initially I thought the culprit may have been the edamame, then while sifting through the package to remove all of the edamame, I found a piece of what appeared to be clear soft rubbery plastic. I cut the substance to see it was food, and it definitely was man made. My poor girl!

Kristin,
Hi there—first, I’m really sorry your Chiweenie had a rough night. That’s upsetting, and absolutely not the experience we want.
About the piece you found: I'd like to assure you that it was not a man-made object. Our meals use whole, human-grade cuts, and very occasionally a naturally occurring bit of firm cartilage or connective tissue can be present. While safe and edible, we understand it can be surprising. We’ll be sure to review this with our kitchen team.
For transparency, our food is produced in small batches with strict quality controls (ingredient verification, batch logs, metal detection, and visual checks) before rapid freezing. We track lot codes so we can investigate any report thoroughly—if you can DM or email your order number and the lot/best-by from the seal, we’ll document this and follow up directly.
Because our meals are made for dogs of all sizes, some small-dog parents prefer to mash or blend portions (or add a splash of warm water) so little pups can eat and digest any naturally firmer pieces more comfortably. If your pup is fat-intolerant or sensitive to specific ingredients, we can also help tailor the transition (smaller portions, slower mix-in) or suggest a recipe that better fits her sensitivities.
Please reach us at [email protected] or (856) 431-5502 (Mon–Sat, 8–5 PST). We’d love the chance to make this right and help your girl feel her best.
Warmly,
The Chi Dog Team

Hi,
Thank you for giving Chi Dog a try and for sharing your honest feedback. We're sorry to hear the diet wasn’t the right fit for your dog. Every pup is unique, and we understand that not all formulas work for everyone.
If you'd like to explore other options or need help finding a better match for your dog’s needs and preferences, our team is always here to help.

Unwanted Products
Products that were never requested were shipped without approval or asking the recipient.
This is very unprofessional and ultimately wasteful as the unwanted products had to be disposed.
Response from Chi DogJul 2, 2025
Thanks for your feedback. We may have connected either at one of our conference booths or during one of our founders’ lectures — we always appreciate the opportunity to share our approach to food therapy.
From time to time, we send out product samples or materials with the hope that they’ll be helpful, especially when there has been prior interest. That said, we understand that not every clinician's sample box is a perfect fit for the moment. If given the chance, we typically recommend donating any extras to a local shelter or a client in need — we’d love to support in that way whenever possible.
Thanks again for your note and for being part of the veterinary community.
Warmly,
