My tenant moved out and I needed to make repairs to my rental and remodel the kitchen and bathroom. I needed to find an experienced, reputable, licensed contractor to help with my project but didn't know anyone. I also wanted to have a quick turn around for the repairs and remodel. Brooke from Buildzoom came to my rescue! She referred 6 highly rated contractors within 24 hours, and I was able to accelerate selecting a contractor for my project. Buildzoom saved me valuable time and gave me peace of mind knowing that each contractor referred is knowledgeable, licensed, insured, and bonded. Furthermore, Brooke reviewed the contract to ensure that my interest is protected. I highly recommend Buildzoom for your next repair or remodeling project.

avoid this outfit
We were looking for a site that provides legitimate contractor reviews. Unfortunately this outfit does not do that. It's just a contractor broker - that rips off the contractor by charging them a huge fee for the "service" - so just go to the contractor directly and not through this outfit. Here you will have a very limited contractor selection and your costs will be way up because the contractor will have to fork over a fee for their referral. It's like "Angies" is now. Angies was a useful service many years ago before it turned into the same kind of rip off.

Hello Mr.Peter-DG,
Reviews left for a contractor are submitted by clients who have worked with those contractors directly. When someone leaves a review on a contractor, we require that they provide us with contact information to validate they are a real person leaving a real review.
When a Property Owner submits a project to BuildZoom, we assist them with finding a contractor in their local area for free. In turn, this acts as a method for contractors to receive real, qualified jobs from property owners. If a contractor opts to bid for a job, and wins, they pay a “referral fee” to BuildZoom, which is a small percentage of the job’s cost for referring the job over to them. This is a friendlier model than most other contractor job boards, which has contractors pay-per-lead whether they win or not. Our contractors only pay for the jobs they win.
For property owners, the pre-construction process can be very confusing, intimidating, and unfortunately we all hear the horror stories of property owners getting scammed or ripped off. We act as an owner's representative, ensuring they have support from industry experts to navigate the process and we help them vet the contractors to ensure they get the best one at the best price. Our service also makes the jobs of good quality contractors easier, because we act as a liaison between contractors and property owners, so we can help translate information to the property owner and keep everyone aligned.
You can go on our website and see just how we’ve helped Property Owners save money by receiving multiple bids for the same job and seeing big price difference between the bids, and how we helped property owners save money by helping them reduce their scope to help complete the job within their budget. Additionally, looking at those stories from the lens of a contractor, we helped 2 contractors actually win jobs that would otherwise be abandoned!
So you’re right that Property Owners can just go directly to the contractor and the contractor can save a few bucks, but they are both losing the value of having an industry expert representing both sides to get the job done. Property Owners risk paying way more than they need to for the same work or they abandon their project because they feel overwhelmed, or they risk getting scammed, and contractors risk losing the job and all the time & effort spent trying to make it happen.

Get the best roof from the best roofer!
I just had my roof replaced by Energy Roofing. Angel is extremely helpful with the whole process. He communicated often and was willing to work with us every step of the way to get our roof done. He exceeded our expectations from the great service to the final product. We are speechless and eternally grateful. HIGHLY recommend.

Buildzoom is an absolute joke
Buildzoom is an absolute joke. They use contractors of their own choosing while giving other contractors low scores. Against my better judgement I decided to use one of the contractors that buildzoom had recommended and it was the worst experience of my life. Buildzoom clearly does NOT do research on any of the contractors listed. Basically the contractors pay for a good review and recommendations. The fact that they would send half of those contractors into someone’s home is horrifying. When contacting buildzoom they only tried to sell me on using their help with the project. Never will I ever trust what buildzoom has to sell or offer. It’s disgusting knowing that the contractors they recommend are the ones that paid for high scores and reviews and NOT work experience. If someone needs to pay for good reviews , that tells me they aren’t good enough or professional enough to get the jobs on their own . PLEASE do your research before using BuildZoom, your best bet is to look elsewhere. Don’t find out the hard way!!

Hi D.Gvese, thank you for your review. We apologize that your experience wasn't positive. Please contact [email protected] so that we can investigate the behavior of the contractor with whom you had a negative experience as this information will impact their BuildZoom score.
There are a few misconceptions in your review that need to be cleared up. BuildZoom does not, and has never in the past, received any form of compensation for contractor reviews, positive or negative. In fact, the BuildZoom score that helps determine which contractors get recommended for projects considers reviews as one of many factors that contribute to the score. These other factors include objective data points like licensure, permitting data, response rate, bid rate, and hire rate.
Considering objective data points like the ones just listed is what separates BuildZoom from other online construction marketplaces that are based solely on easily manipulable reviews. In fact, BuildZoom implements a system to determine the reliability of reviews written on the site, and many suspicious reviews don't make the cut. To illustrate this point, on this same review site you can see reviews from contractors with low BuildZoom scores complaining of positive review suppression as well as reviews complaining that unverifiable negative reviews weren't posted to BuildZoom contractor profiles.
In short, BuildZoom was created to help property owners navigate the murky waters of the construction marketplace, and we take scoring contractors very seriously, as evidenced by our commitment to collecting objection information about contractors as well as our commitment to only positing verifiable reviews. We do not, and have not ever, accepted any form of compensation from contractors to post reviews.

Disappointing
Misleading Promises and No Delivery
My wife and I decided to use buildzoom premium after our discussion with their coordinator. We were told that the service could be used to outsource our bid solicitation and evaluation process, which would take between three and five weeks from start to finish.
We met with three contractors Buildzoom selected, each of whom indicated that their bid would take a few days to put together. Buildzoom suggested a fourth contractor and scheduled a walkthrough with them the following week, but hours before the contractor was scheduled to show up, he backed out saying he would be unable to complete the project within our proposed budget. Buildzoom did not identify a fourth contractor despite our asking if they would be able to identify a replacement bidder.
Fast forward a week and a half, we received one bid from the three contractors that completed walkthroughs. The premium service welcome sheet confirmed the original timeline we were told on our first call with Buildzoom and indicated that the process of receiving initial bids would take one to two weeks, which would be followed by one to three weeks of negotiation for a total bid timeline of three to five weeks from bid to selection.
Concerned about the lack of responsiveness by the contractors, we reached out to our coordinator to confirm that we would receive all of the bids within the two week window that was proposed in the welcome sheet. The response from the Buildzoom team was that they had actually set the deadline for bids three weeks out, but that we should expect to receive bids from the other two contractors by the bid deadline.
Despite our frustration about the lack of communication about the bid deadline and the inconsistency with the proposed schedule, we choose to give them the benefit of the doubt and wait until the bid deadline passed. The bid deadline came and went with no additional bids delivered.
Disappointed with the lack of communication and upset with the lack of progress, we reached out to the one of the contractors about the delay directly and also requested a call with our bulildzoom team. On the call we asked why we had not received the additional bids and suggested that we were thinking about cancelling the service. The Buildzoom team choose to take the opportunity to suggest that we were being unreasonable and that we should give the contractors an additional week to deliver bids. We hesitantly agreed to give them some additional time, but wanted them to (i) confirm that they had reached out to the contractors and (ii) provide an update on when they expected to deliver bids. We also noted that we were not interested in further delaying the selection of our contractor as we understood that the permitting process would take a significant amount of time and could not get underway without selecting a contractor.
Later that day the contractors we followed up with directly replied to our email indicating that they would send us a bid later that day, which they did. However, what they sent us equated to little more than a guess as it did not describe any of the services included or work to be performed and was based solely on their review of the concept drawing we provided to them directly.
At this point we reached out to Buildzoom to let them know we would not be confident using their bid as part of the bid process given the lack of detail and asked that they follow up with them regarding the content of the bid and separately asked that they provide an update on their interaction with the third contractor. Rather than reply regarding the questions we raised they asked if we would like to schedule additional contractor walkthrough despite our explicit instruction the day before that we were not interested in further delaying the contractor selection process.
Frustrated by the delays and lack of responsiveness from the Buildzoom team, we decided to inform them via email that we would be terminating the premium services and asked that they refund at least a portion fo the amount we paid at signing given that we never really received any of the premium services we had contracted for. At this point the Buildzoom team replied indicating that they had satisfied an additional milestone (review of schematic drawings) which they would be charging us for the next day and asked that we wait until we receive the third bid (conveniently another milestone under the agreement).
At the time of this review, I am currently discussing the milestone with Buildzoom as it could not have been satisfied (we never provided schematic drawings to them) and are still requesting a full or partial refund of the amount we paid upfront.
I would not recommend their premium services to anyone that wants to get their project done in a timely or stress free manner.

Hello,
In our Welcome Packets, we share average timeframes we see on most projects when receiving bids back from contractors, but since we have to rely on external contractors to fulfill those bids those averages are not guarantees.
In speaking with our members from our Premium team it sounds like you've been able to work with them and reach a resolution for your issue. We apologize if there were misunderstandings or misconceptions made by any of the information that was shared with you while speaking with our consultants and our Premium team, we understand how important and urgent these projects are for our clients and regret that we couldn't meet your expectations.

It Pays For Itself
Our house was destroyed by fire so I needed to find a builder to handle the rebuild. It's not something that I usually do, so I looked around at different project management companies and reached out to Buildzoom for help. I paid for the Premium service. The put me in contact with 3 different builders, which we met with and discussed our project. 2 of them were very good, but we chose one that had the most knowledge of our local codes and also got along very well with us. Sean and AJ from BuildZoom were great. Sean explained the process. They are milestone based payments, so if they don't deliver they don't get paid. They asked about the project and my needs, and did everything they could to meet those needs (cost, quality and time). AJ was in continual contact through the initial phases of the project. I have no doubt that they have saved me thousands of dollars, a lot of time and a lot of headaches. I highly recommend them - Paul.

Burn your money instead
Use their free service. Their "premium" is not worth anything. Did you know that they charge 3.5% to the contractor AND you still pay 5000, yes that is 5 THOUSAND dollars. They are double dipping, and like I said, the service is not what they promote in their sales pitch. Money flushed down the toilet. I fired them, asked for a partial refund. No, can't do
