Love, love, love this stairlift! The installer was fabulous and was able to install the stairlift in a very difficult stairway and run electrical wires so that you can't even see them. So very pleased that we opted to go with this company!

i bought and installed by myself a used bruno elite curve stair lift. I had asked bruno about this and they told me that it wont work because each stairlift rail is custom made for each home, etc. I am extremely handy, and i have more than enough tools and experience in welding, metal fabrication, and electrical construction to feel confident that i could adapt a stair lift from one home to mine. I figured that the bruno dealers want to sell you a new lift and thats why they said its too hard to modify a system to fit another set of stairs. I MEAN HOW CUSTOM COULD IT BE? I may have to shorten up a couple straight pieces, or drill a few holes for the charger at either end of the rail, and its probably straight pieces and 90 degree pieces, i can just chop them up and piece them together easily enough. So i am an ex auto mechanic (13 years full time) and im a construction electrician for 22 years, am a do it yourself kind of guy, and have welding and cutting equipment, more tools than most people and the ability to use them. This was going to be a piece of cake. So let me say that yes ive sucessfully completed the install, but it was incredibly difficult, i needed to consult a bruno service technician (without his advice this would never have worked), and it took me a long time to finally get it installed. The elite curve IS custom made to your stairs, and i was just lucky that my stairs had only one right turn and the angle of the stairs happened to be the same as the stairs that the lift came from. To handle the rail of the elite curve is extremely difficult, this lift carries a 400 pound person up and down the stairs and the rail is HEAVY. Im not kidding here, its SO HEAVY that i used a winch and overhead pulley to hoist it up into position onto the massive support clamps. Oh and the support clamps are 3/8 inch solid steel. They are heavy too. Everything is heavy, ok but i got the pieces chopped up and bolted together (which requires grinding and precise measuring/ welding to work) and it all looked wonderful until i tried to run the carriage down the stairs. it ground to a halt ast the first non factory joint (my joint) and then i discovered that i had to now deal with the gear teeth which is on the pieces of rail. I tried to grind off the welds at the ends of the gear teeth, and i found that the teeth were also spot welded every 8 inches or so, not really feasable to remove the gear teeth and move them around, and i eventually found a solution to this problem, but WOW THEY ARE NOT LYING when they tell you that its custom made and not adaptable to another home. OK nowadays, anything is possible, there are people far better than me who may be able to install this easier but its just not worth it. The bruno elite curve is super strong, super heavy, totally custom made and not easily modified. Yes it can be done but only with GREAT DIFFICULTY LONG HOURS AND ALOT OF PURE LUCK! For the average home handyman- dont try this , you will regret it. Let me just say that it is the BEST quality stair lift ive seen and worth it . Just have the bruno people install it for you.
