Tutor was very attentive..started with the basics and built on that with my child. Only reason we stopped is because our child needed a break during summer because of all the activities he was involved in during the school year!

Probably dodged a bullet with this school
My experience with admissions for the microschool was similar to that of a time share. It was easy to spot the dishonest aspects such as a fabricated sense of urgency. As you can imagine, that was cause for hesitation. After my conversation with the teacher (whom we really liked!), I asked to speak with someone outside of admissions to answer my questions. After a couple of back-and-forths, they stated: “You get handed over to our Parent Support Team once you secure the payment of your 1s month’s bill” along with other attempts at charging my credit card ending with: “may I go ahead and process your payment?” Basically, I needed to pay in order to speak with anyone other than my dishonest rep (RED FLAG). It finally concluded with him saying that my student’s spot would be auto-released unless I paid them right then. Being pressured into paying $500 for the opportunity to speak with someone who may or may not truthfully answer my simple questions is absurd, and I asked for his supervisor’s contact information (no response… RED FLAG).
There is NO CONTACT INFO available anywhere besides the admissions dept (one phone number, one email… thats all, even for the tutoring portion). So I sent a message via Facebook. I received an email from the head of admissions, who said “typically, when a family remains unconvinced following extensive discussions with admissions and their prospective teacher, it usually means we are not a good fit for their needs.” (RED FLAG)
I responded immediately, explaining that it wasn’t that I’m not convinced, its that I did not trust the admissions rep I was working with and wanted to be sure I was receiving correct information before we made the commitment.
He responded stating, in a nutshell, they did/said nothing wrong and because I have questions at this point, I must not be a good fit for the school and they’ll close my file. (RED FLAG!). I asked for the contact information of his supervisor and again was met with no response.
I have a few thoughts about these interactions…
1) If the school is what they claim, why the need for the high-pressure sales tactics?
2) I understand why he would be protective of his employee (been there), but I don’t understand why, when a concern is raised by a prospective parent, it was completely dismissed without any type of possible resolution. (Basically: “There’s zero chance we could have misspoke or done anything to make you feel that way… you’re the problem.”)
3) I suspect either there is no “parent support team” and/or the admissions reps are the parent support/administration of the microschool.
4) If there is an actual parent support/administration, and the admissions dept was blocking me from reaching them, I’d appreciate them reaching out to discuss this matter. Unfortunately, it likely won’t persuade me to give Brilliant Grades another try, however, I’d be happy to amend this review if this was one dept and not an accurate representation of the entire school/company. (Side note, if this review is still one star, despite any response(s) I may receive online, they did not reach out and/or the “parent support” doesn’t exist)
5) Thankfully, there are many virtual school options available to those of us who need/want something different for our children. If you’re like me, you’ve been let down by the public school system and are looking for a school to partner with your family in order to have the best education possible for your child(ren). Unfortunately, this is not it. We will move on to the next school on our list and I urge you to do the same.

Hi Elizabeth,
Firstly, we wholeheartedly support our admissions team's decisions. Our admissions officers are carefully selected and highly experienced. I'm sure that you can appreciate a school administration that has confidence in their team and stands by its expertise.
Secondly, a good relationship with parents is crucial for effective education.
If the initial chemistry with a parent isn't right, it hampers our ability to educate and support the child effectively. In such cases we prefer to part ways than make promises we cannot keep.
Lastly, our administration is a small, versatile team. This allows for an affordable educational solution for our families. Our commitment is to allocate the majority of our resources towards great instruction rather than a bloated bureaucracy.
In this context, there comes a point where we've provided all possible material to a parent for them to make an informed and thoughtful decision. Beyond that point we may be pointlessly draining our resources instead of serving all families equitably.
