I wanted this product to succeed, but…
I wanted this product to succeed. The concept is excellent: a hidden GPS tracker, motion alarm, and recovery tool specifically designed for bicycles. Unfortunately, my experience with the Boomerang CycloTrac BP600 has been disappointing. The good: * The BP600 hardware appears reasonably well designed. * The device can communicate via Bluetooth using the BlueFruit Connect app. * The alarm and battery monitoring functions work. * The device is discreet and easy to hide on a bicycle. The bad: * The CycloTrac app became unusable. Login would continuously spin and never complete. * Password recovery did not work. * The web dashboard was unavailable and would not respond. * The alarm response was inconsistent. In some cases it took over a minute to activate, long enough for a thief on an e-bike to be several blocks away before the alarm sounded. * The product behavior was often unpredictable. Some commands worked, others did not, and troubleshooting results were inconsistent. * Customer support acknowledged server-related issues, suggesting some problems may be related to backend infrastructure rather than the hardware itself. I spent considerable time troubleshooting the system. The device battery was fully charged, the unit was reset multiple times, Bluetooth communications worked, and direct commands through BlueFruit Connect confirmed that the hardware was operational. However, the core services that make the product valuable—account access, app functionality, and online services—were unreliable. In my opinion, the Boomerang CycloTrac is a great idea that suffers from inconsistent execution. Security and tracking products must be dependable and predictable. When you need them, they must work every time. My experience was that the hardware showed promise, but the software and service infrastructure did not inspire confidence. I ultimately canceled my subscription because I could not reliably access or manage the service I was paying for. Rating: Originally 1 out of 5 stars. I increased the rating to 3 stars because they responded quickly, cancelled my account, and refunded 3 months “for my trouble.” Great concept. Unreliable implementation. UPDATE: Boomerang promptly canceled my account upon request and refunded approximately three months of subscription fees (about $30), which I appreciated. They did not require the return of the device. During the cancellation process, I was told the company is focused on developing its next-generation product. I appreciate the courteous handling of my cancellation and refund request. While I wish the company success, I remain somewhat skeptical based on my experience with the current product and will be interested to see how the next generation performs.
