Discovering Better Help has been a real positive addition to my tools to deal with things that will inevitably crop up in life. I have a difficult relationship with my mother and a high stress job and having someone outside my life to bounce things off with has been a relief. Maybe it's not for everyone but I'm really glad I gave this a shot.

Unlike what a lot of people said on the reviews I read before signing up, I felt they where very honest with me. I did the 7 day free trial and just before the trial was over they sent me an email notifying me that they were going to start charging my card. Even though the price is stated per week, it did say clearly that is was going to be charged monthly. I usually can only schedule one live session per week with my counselor but I think that's due to her schedule being packed as opposed to "not being allowed" to have more than one but my counselor always answers my messages and quite fast It is a little expensive but considering that you are consulting with a fully qualified professional and in my case I do video sessions, it's a pretty similar feeling to an in person consultation. Try not to judge the app or better help in a general way based on one counsellor! Sometimes it takes a while to find the right person. It's like saying a hospital sucks because a doctor was rude to you: change doctors, not hospitals! Anyway, it's been very helpful to me and I hope this review will encourage other people!

BetterHelp was shown to me when I was at my lowest emotional point and I have never looked back. There was also an option for my financial status, which was the main reason I never sought help. The counselor I was matched with has gone above and beyond helping me with every emotion I've come to feel. The app is helpful, and the email and text notifications were great. I will continue using BetterHelp.

I started on BetterHelp in November 2017, feeling desperate and confused. I've been struggling with constant nightmares for unclear reasons for about five years, and I wanted some guidance through a program I found called Turning Nightmares into Dreams, without having the therapist take over or go in Jungian directions that would conflict what I was working on. It took me two therapists to find a fit, but once I did, she (Holly Karban) was amazing. I'm far more comfortable writing than I am speaking about difficult emotional things, and one of my main issues with face-to-face therapy was I'd always feel better on the day I had an appointment, then feel stuck alone until the next one. Also one of my major anxieties the past few years has been money, so making the decision to make a face-to-face appointment for $150-$200 for an hour was always a huge source of stress. Paying only slightly more for an entire month of whenever-I-want writing priviliges was a revelation, and it didn't matter that it usually took a day (sometimes two, but usually within 24 hours) to hear back. Putting my thoughts out somewhere I knew they would be read by a caring professional was often enough of a relief in itself to get me through. I quit BetterHelp in January 2018, because I felt I'd progressed in the nightmare program and situation and my own management of myself that I would be alright without it, and so far (March 2018) that's been the case. My only trouble with BetterHelp came with the initial counsellor assignment and changing it. The way the "session" window works, you answer lots of questions about your troubles, and they try to match you with someone who fits your needs. For me, they were way off the first time. I'm sure she was a lovely lady, but I specifically asked for and needed someone who wasn't going to try to analyze the meaning of my nightmares, but instead work on them as a disorder in themselves. Anyway, while you're waiting to be assigned a counsellor, the window asks you to write more about yourself so the counselor can get to know you better. I proceeded to write about 2000 words in the day I waited, and then, when I switched counsellors, BetterHelp wiped EVERYTHING I'd written all the way back to the initial questionnaire. To me, it seems there's reason to wipe talk with that particular counselor for privacy, but no reason to wipe all the "get to know me" writing before any counsellor was assigned. Regardless, I highly reccomend copy pasting your writing from the Session window before making any account changes, if you want to keep anything for reference or so you don't have to write it all out again. Other than that, BetterHelp has been exactly what the name promises. By far my best therapy experience to date (and I've had a few), and the first place I'd come back to if I felt the need again. I'm immensely grateful and wouldn't hesitate to reccomend the site to those I love.

Betterhelp matched me with a counselor who expertly helped me through a crisis situation. The Betterhelp UI is not perfect, but the counselor was great and overall it did exactly what I needed when I needed it.
