It's a corporation, not a therapy center
It's a corporation, their interest is to make money, more so than truly reducing mental health. I'd say if you're doing well anyways, and you're just looking for a talking buddy, this might be the site for you. But if you're depressed, not doing well, or stressed out, this site might make it worse, as it did for me. I tried about 9 therapists, after the first therapist changed her availabilities. The therapists made me feel worse than when I started the therapy. I didn't feel heard and understood. It was obvious that some of the therapists use this platform simply so they can be more flexible with their own lifes and make their own lifes easy, but there was highly little concern and engagement for their clients. One therapist over validates every single thing I say and makes me feel uncomfortable, the conversation seems disingenuine. Another indicates that she judges me for not adapting belief systems that make me weak of powerless. Another tries to be in full control, and says that if I'm uncomfortable sharing something personal with her, then why am I even doing this? Putting pressure on me. Also she tells me that there will be no blaming in her session, but she says it in a blaming and aggressive tone, which was quite misplaced for therapy session. Another seems very engaged when I talk, but whenever I look away from the screen she looks at her phone and does something, as soon as I look back, she stops looking at her phone, as if I did not notice. All in all, there is very little competence on this platform, you need to search very hard to find someone who genuinely wants to help. And their search engine is horrible. I was looking for a female therapist, and the search results showed me 70-80 % men! When I enquire at customer service why, they tell me that's all the therapists available at the moment. Regarding that: On average 70 percent of therapists are female. Also, when I looked for a new therapists within a time frame of minutes twice, I got a completely different set of therapists suggested! So you are not even shown all the possible therapists! And the available therapists from the main presentation page on betterhelp are also not listed in the therapists list that I get when choosing a new therapist. So I definitely do not get all available therapists suggested, as customer service told me. Which is an absolute bummer, because it's hard to find a good therapist to begin with anyways! Bad search engine, incompetent service. Customer service at least had a very warm tone in their messages. You can spare your nice response here to this review, I know you just have to do it to make your company look better. You can celebrate. You got all my money for all those months I tried to get helpful therapy, and you gave me nothing of value, nothing I needed in return, just a stressful time! Hooray to you! Writing this comment is probably much more therapeutic than the sessions I took with you! And I'm honestly angry at that, because I really wanted to do helpful therapy!
