I would not trust this company with therapy. I had an agreement with a price of 200 for therapy. Unknown to me the company were charging me 320. Then when I contacted them they said it was because it a gift account and refused to refund me the difference. I have now lost my savings, can no longer afford therapy and have had half the amount of therapy I could of had with a normal therapist. Email communication with them was also terrible. Each time customer service would reply it was a different person and they did not read previous email communication so every time I had to re explain the situation. This has caused me a great deal of stress and anxiety when I have already been going through therapy for PTSD.

Hi Tracey,
We're sorry if there were some billing concerns with your personal membership, or perhaps one that you gifted to someone else. Financial aid (and other discounts) don't directly apply to a gift membership you might be purchasing for someone else as a gift. We'd love the chance to be able to go over some other options with you, though.
Since you've had a bit of a complicated experience working with different members of our Member Success team in the past, I'd appreciate the chance to work with you directly to get this all resolved for you in a way you're happy with. That's what we're here for! I'll request some basic information here through Trustpilot to see how I might be able to assist you further.
Thank you,
BetterHelp Team

BetterHelp Worsened My Mental Health
Disappointing experience overall. After the first session, my therapist said she couldn’t continue with me because given my bullying and anger issues a male therapist would be better. While I can understand a therapist not wanting to take on certain clients, I found her explanation peculiar. Was I to infer from this that female therapists are not capable of addressing those issues. After some time passed and I hadn’t found another therapist, she then said she was ready to be my therapist again and, not wanting to start all over again, I resumed sessions with her.
As I disclosed my anger and bullying issues, including my anger over someone who was stalking and harassing me, I couldn’t help noticing her tone was nonchalant and cavalier, which only irritated me further. She also seemed very unresponsive when I shared things with her, and in general I sensed a lack of engagement.
It was when she had me complete an anger worksheet where things started to go south. At first, I was a bit annoyed that my anger would be trivialized to filling out some worksheet as opposed to her engaging with me directly. Nonetheless I completed and sent her the worksheet disclosing in it having been bullied to the point that I was starting to admire and respect my bullies. I would think this would be a red flag and would spark a sense of urgency on the therapist’s part. Her response was, “Thanks for sharing.” So, I am left asking myself, did she even bother to read it and, if by some small chance she did, was she alert enough to catch my cry for help. Needless to say, after my insurance freebies were used up, I did not continue therapy.
Just after I ended my sessions, someone from BetterHelp emailed me asking the reason for my stopping my sessions and if everything was okay. At first, I decided to not respond and let it go but as time passed, I was still upset over how my issues were handled so I felt I had to say something. So, when I finally replied to her in depth about my experience, I received a reply thanking me for the feedback and that she’d relay it to her team. While I did appreciate the fast response, she never bothered to acknowledge my frustration. Since it took me a half year to write that due to my being busy from helping my mom out after my dad passed away, and taking a new job to move closer to her, I felt shorted by the response especially given how my therapy sessions only left me more angry and frustrated. That was when I told myself I just need to write a review and be done with it.
That said, there were a few other aspects of BetterHelp that did not give me a ‘warm and fuzzy’. First, once my insurance freebies were used up the site would not allow me to reply to my therapist, even as a courtesy, on why I was terminating my session. For one it highlights that I am paying for the ‘written’ portion as well including when I completed the anger worksheet and pretty much got no response. However, what got my attention was how immediately after I had tried to send my response, the credit card entry field conveniently came right up, immediately after the notification that I had used up my sessions. Second was the automated email reminders from BetterHelp to write in my journal. Lastly, and something others have pointed out as well, were the ridiculous amounts of advertisements that were littering all of my social media platforms. Even after I thought I deleted my cookies or changed my settings, I was still getting advertisements even six months after I ceased therapy. I do not recall any other medical or behavioral health entity advertising this much and forcing their services down our throats.
This leads me to believe that BetterHelp is more focused on making a profit than about actually helping people. Spread the word, get people to join, get their credit card info, and keep them hooked. I’ll now finish by saying my experience with BetterHelp did not improve my mental health. It instead made it worse. It also left me with a bad impression of therapy. They claim to use licensed therapists. If that’s the case, then I am not impressed and feel that even I could do a better job. I was left asking myself what is the point of going to therapy if it is only going to make you feel worse. Why the hell would I want to pay for that. I am just better off either talking to my close friends, who’ll at least give me empathy and validation, or just try to address my issues on my own. I know this is a long review, but writing this review is therapeutic for me as it allows me to get the frustrating experience I had with BH off my chest.

We appreciate you sharing your experience so candidly, and we understand your disappointment. It sounds like there were a few different factors or issues you had during your time with us, so we're truly sorry if you felt (or feel) that our goal as a platform is to do anything less than make mental healthcare more convenient and accessible to the individuals who need it. Based on what you've described, we could have definitely done better for you.
I'd like to make sure we get to the bottom of each of your issues, and work to improve our service by addressing where we could do better. I'll request a bit of basic information from you here through Trustpilot so we can hopefully make that happen.
Thank you,
BetterHelp Team

Awful experience
Awful experience with my therapist, who frankly has absolutely no business being one!
Had to pay for a month upfront but after 2 weeks I’d heard all about her own issues with health, family, eating disorders, work etc etc and she constantly talked over me. She asked me nothing about myself or what I wanted from therapy and made some very surprising comments given the information I’d supplied when I signed up. Also unsolicited and unqualified medical advice.
I also requested phone appointments but was put under constant pressure to switch to video calls which I didn’t want to do.
I’m aware I could have switched to a different therapist but to be honest I now have no faith in BetterHelp if that is the type of person they are recruiting!

It's important to feel your therapist is there to support you and not the other way around, Mrs. T and if this wasn't your experience, we are always here to help!
We have many therapists available who can provide the care you are looking for but I understand you are hesitant to try again.
I am hoping you would be willing to work with me to find another match who feels more compatible and will request more information, via TrustPilot. This way we can make sure your match is a good fit before moving forward.

Beware
Beware, you will start paying your subscription before you find a therapist. Outside the USA your choices may be limited and you will be paying for nothing. Do your research first and understand the terms of service.
Response from BetterHelpNov 25, 2022
You are correct, Dennis, we do charge all memberships upfront because we are a subscription service. However, we are happy to help with finding a therapist before subscribing, just let us know!
Most members are matched with 24-48 hours of creating an account, whether they have subscribed or not, and we have many therapists available to our international members.
I would be happy to help you find a therapist who feels like a great fit for your needs, so I am going to request more information through TrustPilot.
Looking forward to working with you, and finding a match who allows you to use your membership as intended!

Went through a 5 minute survey only to…
Went through a 5 minute survey only to be told £45 a month or something. Should've been told straight up. No I don't have the money. Won't be getting help.
Response from BetterHelpNov 23, 2022
We're sorry for any confusion or frustration, Alicia! We offer a paid online therapy service, and we apologize if that wasn't clear upon creating your account.
If you'd like, we can have our Member Success team reach out to you to see what might be done in terms of pricing to get things to a point where you might consider giving the service a try!

I got charged £240 without any warning.
I was enjoying my betterhelp sessions but a bit shocked to get charged without any email. £240 at once is a lot. I wanted to pause my sessions, but they never told me when they’d charge me, and they just did. At 10pm on a Friday night I got a notification. Not great customer service. I have emailed them asking for a refund, so let’s see how their customer service do…I’m not impressed so far as there is no phone number to call. Only a message form.
Response from BetterHelpNov 19, 2022
We try to make it clear, on the initial payment page, that you will be charged up front for future time. Also, that your membership is recurring, unless cancelled. No worries though, Matt! We understand if this was missed and are happy to help here.
I know you have contacted us but I am going to request more information, via TrustPilot, so we can work together to get this straightened out for you.
Looking forward to speaking soon!

kind of a scam
the video call quality is terrible.
you can never book in regualr slots with therapist.
and you pay monthly and end up never really having to see a therapist.
its kinda a scam.
just use the
bacp website instead
Response from BetterHelpNov 9, 2022
Each therapist does have their own schedule and this may not always work with your own. However, I can assure you we are here to help you, Milo! We have many other therapists, who have varying schedules, that may be more conducive to scheduling with your availability.
Call quality can be dependent on a variety of factors but we are also happy to help troubleshoot any technical issues you may be experiencing.
We want you to be able to receive the care you came here for and paid for! I am going to request more information, via TrustPilot, so we can work together to find the best solution here.

My experience was bad
My experience was bad.
After not finishing even one full session, I was advised to find a licensed therapist somewhere else.
Honestly, this is not what I expected from a mental health platform.
It was my first experience and I am very upset and disappointed in psychological therapy overall.
Response from BetterHelpNov 4, 2022
I'm sorry to hear this, Marina. Therapists are obligated to let you know if they don't feel they're qualified to help you, but it's certainly possible for a different therapist (either on our platform or somewhere else) to be able to provide you the support you need and deserve.
I'll send a request for more information here in case you'd be open to working with us further to see if there's another option for you.
