Not enough listening, only robotically trying to listen. Jumping to advice rather than getting whole picture first. Did it once but got charged for the whole month.

I was looking for a companies which provide free/cheap mental health, and saw and ad from BetterHelp. I am a young student who just finished a hard degree and looking for a first job. I barely have money for my needs and am fully financially depended on my parents and my partner. After I took a quiz in which I honestly replied that I am feeling depressed, have anxiety and is not employed as I am a student. Then I found out the price of 45£\week which paid monthly, I was disappointed, because there was no mentions in the ADs that it is so expensive. I closed the website and went further. Then, I started to receive LOTS of emails almost everyday in which the company “Wanted to make sure I have one more chance to try” the service, and then offering me 35£/week during the first month = remind me to make me pay them again and again and again. Guys, people seeking for mental health services not to get annoying emails which make them feel worse. I don’t need a reminders every couple of days that “I have a chance to speak to somebody” for lots of money, I was seeking for help. Your “promotion” company is definitely annoy people and make them harder to try to seek for help in the other place, or use feeling of upset people to pay you money. You pushing people with mental health problems to pay, not to solve their problems. Definitely do not recommend. If you have mental health problems - seek for help other service.

I’ve been trying to get going with BetterHelp, but they keep pairing me with therapists that have NOTHING to do with my needs. I have filled out their forms, and adjusted my answers to try to dial in my needs so that I can find an appropriate therapist, but their system keeps steering me in the wrong direction. VERY FRUSTRATING. I need help/guidance/counseling, NOT an additional source of aggravation in my life. Thanks, but NO THANKS !

I have been charged by Better Help twice for the last 5 months, having escalated the issue to the team last week, I still do not have the monies refunded totalling £960. I have now been charged again twice this month post raising the issue, increasing the monies incorrectly taken by Better Help to £1,200. Can someone from Better Help please immediately contact me to arrange the return of these monies, and resolve this issue

Poor therapist. Had one session and because I didn’t cancel in time, this has cost me £340! Really disappointing and would not recommend. Therapist was disinterested with vacuous questions and no real experience in the areas I was interested in exploring. Don’t waste your money.

Be AWARE this is US based firm, so UK and EU laws are not applicable. Better Help offer couples counselling through a firm called Regain, which is also US based and unsuitable for UK clients. You will not be be able to speak to anyone and it is all very impersonal, very business like. As a vulnerable person that is seeking counselling, this experience has shown me there is no alternative to traditional methods of counselling.

I signed up to BetterHelp in February. My “therapist” (actually an under qualified counsellor) seemed to lack experience - she asked very very few questions and there many awkward silences where she seemingly didn’t know what to say, after I spent a long time explaining background. After this first session I felt pretty discouraged about continuing. As I was charged £240 I asked for my subscription to be paused UNTIL I had a chance to use up the 3 additional sessions I had paid for. As someone who suffers with depression and anxiety, the thought of trying to find a new therapist and re-explaining my issue filled me with dread. Now they have continued to charge my card! I have now paid over £480 and only had ONE session. This subscription model totally preys on the vulnerable. BetterHelp should know better - the very nature of their business means they should be supporting users, not adding to their mental health worries. They should not continue to charge you if you haven’t used sessions !!! I already asked THREE times for it to be paused UNTIL I had further sessions. However they just keep charging you. It’s absolutely disgusting and they make it very very difficult for you to manage your subscription yourself.

I never think to read reviews before I jump into something. The common thread for one-star reviews is the lack of open communication regarding their services/billing practices. I was under the impression I would have (4) sessions for the rate of $288. In that first month, I had (1) 30-minute session. I had scheduled another session, and then the next month was billed. I reached out to say there is a mistake, I had (1) 30-minute session in the month of April. And they indicated it is a recurring monthly charge. Too bad if you only had (1) session. They encouraged me to journal on-line and check out groups, this is not what I was looking for. They did refund month #2. But I am out $288 for (1) 30-minute session. Roughly $10 per minute. Go find real therapists, with real offices, and reasonable rates, most places accept insurance. I am afraid it is indeed a grift.
