I’m really disappointed in my experience with betterhelp, i have tried three different therapists. Each one didn’t really offer any help apart from listening and asking me how im going to solve my problem. I’m not in the mental or financial space to be wasting money and time like this. I’m really upset about the outcome of betterhelp. I think the therapists on there should be checked more thoroughly as i think half of them are running their services from their living room couch. I do not recommend at all.

While our therapists go through a rigourous vetting process, we are sorry to hear your matches weren't the right support system for you. Just like with in person therapy, finding the right match can take a few tries, but rest assured we are here to help.
We always want to know when your experience isn't what you've expected and our Member Success Team typically responds within 1 business day.
I am going to request more information, via TrustPilot, so we can do what we can to turn around your experience.

Stood up several times!
Stood up several times!
I was charged up front. On 7/1 i was stood up when the therapist never logged on. We rescheduled for 7/5. The therapist then canceled 10 minutes before the session ( i was already logged on). We rescheduled only for Betterhelp to cancel again. They have charged me already yet haven't actually provided any services. You're better off dealing with a therapist directly. Do not use Betterhelp.

We're really sorry to hear about this experience with your therapist, Tim! Missed sessions and last-minute cancellations are not considered common, and our Member Success team is available to help adjust your membership to account for these experiences. They can report this to our internal clinical team for review, and can also personally help with finding you a therapist that can provide you the support you need.
I've asked for a bit more information from you here so that we can reach out to you directly and make sure this gets resolved.
Thank you,

No service
I was offered just one therapist who specilaises in Children - nothing to do with my issues. Worse though my home page is unresponsive, I can't contact the therapist or click on anything on the page. Their tech team sent a cheerful message telling me to reload the app - I wasn't using the app. It told me to clear cookies - no idea how to do this but I cleared adblock. Not sure what they mean by this. I shouldn't have to have technical know how to access a webpage. I have requested a refund today with forlorn hope of getting back my wasted £160.
Much more stressed than ever!
Update - after complaing here and to paypal I have now received a full refund, very relieved.

I'm really sorry to hear about the technical issues you were facing with the site recently, sleepyhead! Sounds like you got ahold of our Technical Support team, but they weren't able to isolate the issue (as of yesterday). We're confident we can help you get this technical issue sorted out, or help you through a refund process if that's ultimately what you feel is best.
I'll request some more information from you here through Trustpilot so that we can reach out to you directly, assuming the Technical Support team hasn't already settled this for you.
Thank you,

High Price / Very Low Value
What a joke! Got matched with a therapist who was too incompetent to even give a f*** about attending a scheduled appointment … twice!
Another time she rescheduled - The other matched therapist was a nice guy, however, absolutely unhelpful and clearly not the help I was looking for, however, I had already 200 or 400€ (Don’t remember 100%, however, I remember it being very expensive)
That’s already a quarter of most people’s salary, which is absolutely insane, if you think about it.
Save your time, money and energy people, there’s definitely better help out there.
Their commercials are good, however, their competence definitely isn’t - Very sad, but unfortunately true
Response from BetterHelpJul 1, 2023
We are sorry to hear your therapist matches weren't supportive towards your goals, Dominik. We understand how important it is to be matched with someone who is a good fit and so we are always available to help if a rematch is necessary.
Our Member Success team also always wants to know about any troubles, so we can make sure to relay information to the appropriate teams.
I am going to request more information from TrustPilot so that we can see how we can turn around your experience.

This service is trash
This service is trash. I got mached whit a "therapist", who wasen't even a licensed psychology, but I had really needed to talk to someone and I had no motivation to look further. This was such a redicoulos experience. She was gaslithy, judgy, went complitely off truck, got all out conversation from the first session mixed up and cherry on the top: she though I was a Doctor (?). Avoid this scam therapy at all cost
Response from BetterHelpJun 30, 2023
While all of our therapists are fully licensed and vetted before offering services on our platform, it sounds like your match may not have been who you were looking for.
Our goal is do everything we can to match our members with a therapist who can support them towards their goals, but we are also always available if you don't feel your therapist is the right fit.
I am going to request more information from TrustPilot so that we can speak further about your experience with your therapist and see how we can assist you.

I feel entirely swindled by BetterHelp.
I feel entirely swindled by BetterHelp.
While the therapist assigned, Carol, was absolutely great and I felt well matched with her, the BetterHelp platform is a swindle.
I signed up for an initial month of sessions (4 one-to-one consultations). However, the system would not allow me to access my fourth session unless I subscribed to another month, even though I had not yet received what I had paid for.
In other words, I paid for an initial 4 sessions, but only received 3. Had I not felt conned by this dishonest marketing approach, I would have continued with the therapy sessions.
The fault was not with the therapist, but the rather nasty business model of BetterHelp, attempting to financially string you along, without delivering what was contractually promised.
Despite still being within my subscription period, the system even prevented me from being able to message my therapist, to let her know that the system was blocking me from accessing the scheduled session - so she was left imagining that I had not turned up for our meeting.
For me, the therapists (group therapy also available) were excellent. The business model is entirely dishonest.
As it stands at the time of writing this review, I am still within 2 days of my current subscription, but am prevented from using the platform unless/until I cough up more money. For the record, BetterHelp, had you not employed such a dishonest strategy, I would have renewed my next month - but you haven't delivered what was already paid for.
†********"*""""
Responding to the BetterHelp response below, which is entirely dishonest: I had a booked session WITHIN the timeframe of my monthly subscription, but was denied access to the session.
This platform is an utter scam. AVOID.

We are sorry for any confusion around your membership billing cycle, Julia. While we don't bill based on sessions, but rather weeks, we are always available to help make sure you are able to utilize your account appropriately.
Our Member Success Team is happy to clarify any account-related questions or concerns and they typically respond within 1 business day.
I am going to request more information, via TrustPilot, so we can look into your account further for assistance.

Updated: Shared Patients’ Data
After being on BetterHelp for quite some time, I finally found a therapist I liked. Unfortunately, around the same time I found out that BetterHelp “shares” information with Facebook, TikTok, other third parties, and advertisers. They weren’t just sharing email addresses. You know that intake form that was private and just between you and your therapist? Lies. The FTC announced a $7.8 million fine and proposed consent order with BetterHelp, Inc. for alleged violations of Section 5 of the FTC Act. A class action lawsuit has been filed against them. It’s hard enough to reach out for mental healthcare. There are a shortage of practitioners and high demand. BetterHelp exploited the most vulnerable. I finally found a helpful therapist but there’s no way he didn’t know what happened. I was struggling to pay for healthcare or so I thought. I was paying for my private information to passed on. Does Betterhelp think the mentally ill aren’t paying enough? It’s hard to build trust and Betterhelp obliterated the little trust I had left. You have no shame, Betterhelp.
ETA: Betterhelp responded. Notice how they phrased it specifically as “private information such as members' names or clinical data from therapy sessions.”
As far as I can tell they did not share that SPECIFIC information (patients’ names and the content of sessions) but they did share sensitive, private data.
They sent details to Facebook and others about how often you logged on Betterhelp, how many times there was messages between you and your therapist (though not the exact content), location, and other demographic information so that patients could be targets for ads.
Enough of this information can easily identify who you are and be tracked to your social media profile.
Did Betterhelp safeguard this info so it wasn’t passed onto even sketchier data brokers after social media companies received this information? Doubtful.
From USA Today: “The company nevertheless revealed data including email and IP addresses and questionnaire information to Facebook, Snapchat, Criteo, and Pinterest for advertising purposes, the FTC said in its complaint. It also accused BetterHelp of misleading customers and the public in 2020 by falsely denying news reports that it had revealed customers' personal data to third parties.”
They shared the questionnaire information aka the intake. Your previous diagnosis, medication, past and current issues could’ve been shared. When initially confronted about this three years ago Betterhelp lied about its actions.
I can’t post direct links so if other clients of Betterhelp are interested starting in March of this year the following outlets published stories on this:
ABC news
The Seattle Times
Associated Press
Jezebel
USA Today
And of course the Federal Trade Commission website.
I never said Betterhelp sold data but shared it. There is a distinction as pedantic as that is.
From the FTC:
“The Federal Trade Commission has issued a proposed order banning online counseling service BetterHelp, Inc. from sharing consumers’ health data, including sensitive information about mental health challenges, for advertising. The proposed order also requires the company to pay $7.8 million to consumers to settle charges that it revealed consumers’ sensitive data with third parties such as Facebook and Snapchat for advertising after promising to keep such data private.”
If the above statement in the Federal Trade Commission website is proven to be inaccurate, I’ll retract. As of 6/27/23, that’s live on the site.
This is supposed to be a professional site to help with mental health issues. They chose rather cavalierly to break trust. Now they are doing linguistic gymnastics to wiggle out of the consequences after finally being exposed.
And Betterhelp, I don’t need you to share anymore. You’ve shared plenty.

Hi Amy,
We're really sorry for any concern surrounding the wording of the FTC consent order you're referring to.
To clarify, we do not share and have never shared with advertisers, publishers, social media platforms, or any other similar third parties, private information such as members' names or clinical data from therapy sessions. In addition, we do not receive and have never received any payment from any third party for any kind of information about any of our members.
All of this (as well as the additional measures we take beyond what is required) should be very clear in our privacy policy.
We cannot contact you directly through Trustpilot, but I'll provide you the option to leave your preferred email address so we can share more on this!
Thank you,
BetterHelp Team

Protect yourself. Save ur money. Skip BetterHelp.
I'm writing this review cuz if you really need help, I want you to avoid what I experienced ... especially if you're financially vulnerable on top of having a hard time emotionally.
The premise that BetterHelp makes therapy affordable because it cuts out the cost of renting a professional meeting space is a fallacy. Check for yourself online ... highly skilled and experienced therapists CHARGE THE EXACT SAME amount for in-person as online sessions. It sucks but it's true. The discount you're getting on BetterHelp is a reflection of the QUALITY of therapists.
The "convenience" of the BetterHelp is WAY MORE EXPENSIVE in the long run. Paying 40£ an hour to have someone (who's likely a recent grad and offers all the depth of insight available in a paper cup) asking generic questions is more than not helpful, it can be downright heartbreaking ... particularly if you're feeling lonely and tired.
It would as cheap (and likely safer) just to talk to a friend and get them to randomly ask you "Why do you think you felt that?" and "What do you think that meant?". You're better off researching highly trained therapists and asking if they have a sliding scale. It will take you more time to find someone and that sucks but it's worth it.
Protect yourself, Save your money and Skip BetterHelp.
You Deserve Better.

Hi Alex,
In contrast to traditional in-person sessions, a BetterHelp membership includes more than just the option to have weekly live sessions with a trained and fully-licensed therapist! You can communicate with the therapist throughout the week, participate in group "classes" facilitated by different therapists, complete worksheets, and more.
Although our prices are competitive to in-person options, we have a "financial aid program" to help with pricing to those that might need it, too.
If you're open to it, I'll be requesting some more information from you through Trustpilot so I can reach out to you and see if there's any way we can help you try the service, or improve your experience (if you already started a membership).
Thank you,
BetterHelp Team
