Just checked these guys out of curiosity and apparently you can't pay with a PayPal for their services. This is because PayPal can give you your money back in seconds if something will go wrong and BH don't want you to be able to get your money for non-services :D So confirmed to myself and making other people aware - Scam to get your details and bank card number. Update: BH requested some additional information- including full name and personal number😅 For sure it will be easier for me to write this review once every few days and for sure my phone number won’t be given to scammers, who selling personal data

Better help advertise a very accessible service (messaging, phone calls, video calls, working around you) but when you purchase they do not actually provide the service. They outsource to therapists who have their own private practices and only have a small amount of time out aside for BH and therefore are not available to provide most of the services that you pay for. You need to buy a subscription before you find out this information. I'm at the end of my first week without receiving any input and I'm really upset by the amount of money I've wasted - it's made me feel a fool (which is probably not the aim of therapy).

Good therapist. Distorted billing. If your therapist takes a break for say Christmas. BetterHelp will still take money out of your pocket for a service that you couldn’t actually use. And you won’t be able to get a refund. Not to mention the prices. I couldn’t get $220 back in this instance for two weeks missed. Do yourself a favour and find a therapist where you pay per session and can knock on their door. This apps billing structure is not built on sanity.

They are just taking advantage of people. They take all your data, and then ask you to give them your credit card before doing anything. Companies like this need to be erradicated.

On 12/12/23 I purchased a discounted one-month subscription to betterhelp.com with my FSA card. In completing the setup of my account, including preferences as to the type of therapist I wanted to see (practice, etc), I was automatically assigned to a therapist (I wasn't given a choice). In setting up my first appointment with this therapist, his first availability was another week away on 12/20. On the 20th, I logged into my appointment on the app and the therapist never showed. I messaged him through the app with no response. I finally logged out, and throughout the afternoon received 8 emails from betterhelp.com letting me know I was subject to a $15 cancellation fee for missing my appointment! I tried calling BetterHelp twice (answering service) and sent multiple emails asking for a refund. No response. In searching the internet to see if there was another way to reach the therapist directly, I learned that he had misrepresented himself, his location, and his certification in MN. I finally got an email from BetterHelp stating they had extended my subscription by 7 days--this is not reflected on my account detail online; I signed up on 12/12 and my service was extended only 4 days, to 1/16. I tried scheduling with another therapist only to discover that she also had limited availability and I scheduled for her first available appt on 12/27. An hour before our session, she messaged me saying she had to cancel, and asking if I was available later in the week... I wasn't. This subscription charges by week or by month, not by session. I'm already two weeks into my prepaid month and have yet to meet with a therapist because they can't seem to show up for scheduled appointments. I've asked again (via email) for a full refund of the $182, and haven't received a response from BetterHelp.

Awful service. I signed up but every therapist I was matched with either was really pushy with the live sessions or was just totally rubbish and unresponsive. It seems like the therapists just do this to make some extra cash on the side ahd dont really care about their clients on Betterhelp. I asked for my money back so I can spend it on a session with an actual therapist but was given an extra week. I don't want an extra week on this awful service. Like other reviews have said, they only care about the money and not really the clients wellbeing!

I want to start off by saying that my therapist was excellent, I couldn't fault her at all. This is purely a review of Betterhelp. Like many others, I find that I work best with therapy every two weeks rather than every week, so that I have adequate time to process the sessions. It appears Betterhelp has never offered this flexibility, but in 2021 they used to have a workaround which was promoted by their own staff (i.e. to pause or cancel every other week and then re-open the account) They have now completely removed that option and you can only pause your membership for either 2 week, 4 week or 6 week periods, and only once every 3 months. They claim to offer total flexibility for modern-day therapy on your terms, but unless you literally want one session every single week without any breaks (if you miss any or can't pause your membership, you still pay the weekly fee), this is not the platform for you. Update: I cancelled my membership today after hearing back that the only ‘help’ they could offer me was an extra 7 days membership (a useless token as I still can’t have therapy bi-weekly). When I asked that they do something which WOULD at least benefit me, i.e. refund me 7 days instead of 7 extra, they refused.

Therapist yawned during the session. I like my job and it is the only good constant thing in my life right now. It is not a fancy job, I don't get paid much but it's mine and I'm not terrible at it. No matter how many times I said I don't want a new job right now the therapist would always start to talk about how to apply for jobs and thing I can put on my CV. The therapist did not seem to be able to relate to anything. I'm scared to walk down the street as there are always scooters and bikes coming at you. "Oh I don't know about that because I never go into town" "oh you don't want to go out walking in winter, it's cold" I am very outdoorsy and have all the clothing to hike comfortably in cold weather. Therapists seem to be unable to fathom that living alone does not mean that you are lonely. I don't need to go out to meet new people I need help bonding with people. I am in many clubs and so alot of classes. Still the therapist told me to join clubs to meet people. When I told her that I have afew hobbies and clubs she tutted when I said they cost money. Like she thought they would be for free. Most hobbies, clubs and classes cost money. She would also patronise me when I said I had plans for the weekend and would not just sit alone at home. "Oh well done, see you do have friends" at the end of every session. Yawn! This person was clearly in a comfortable little bubble and did not have any real life experience. As with alot of therapy has a little script to read that will magically solve problems. It is the opposite should be called "worsehinder" I know you are supposed to try out different therapists to find one you can build a bond with, life would be great if you could afford to waist hundreds of pound finding the right therapist before you get into the actual therapy, Most people can't do this I was also running out of time. I was getting worse the more I looked for help and spoke to the wrong people. Sadly, the UK market may prove to be quite lucrative for this company as our NHS mental health service is poor and under funded. News flash! no, I do not want to give a discount voucher to friends and family
