As many have stated before, I find BetterHelps pricing format to be misleading. It is worded in a way that you expect to pay £45 per weekly session but in actual fact you are charged £45 irrespective of whether you speak to a therapist or not. Whilst I appreciate the flexibility that has been offered by moving my payment date I really dislike being charged for a service when I haven't used it and I don't believe BetterHelp do a I good enough job of being transparent with the payment terms. The counselling I have received has been decent. It's just a shame so many people seem to voice exactly the same concern and that BetterHelp don't seem to have done much to improve the situation.

The Therapist was good. However the platform is dubious. They continued to take payments after sessions had ended. They also did not seem to match Therapist to the required abilities, background etc. Use this service with care. Their administration service seems to be non existent... this is a money taking app first and foremost. For myself I would not use them again.

I signed up for BetterHelp because I was feeling low, empty, unmotivated, because I procrastinated wildly at work and was struggling with emotional eating. BetterHelp paired me up with a UK therapist who came across very likeable and empathic; in the first sessions I had with her, she made very many good suggestions and showed kindness and practical sense. However, I eventually cancelled my subscription because I couldn't shoulder it financially any longer. However, I still had nearly a full month paid for. I told my therapist that I had cancelled, but would like to take advantage of BetterHelp for the rest of the month until my subscription ran out. From the moment I told her my membership was going to run out in four weeks, she totally lost interest and became super slow to reply. We had one single therapy session at the beginning of my last paid-for month, and at the end of it, she said quick goodbyes, wished me all the best for my life and was off. I was taken aback (and not thinking on my feet because we had just come out of a therapy session that was very emotional for me, I was still crying), so I wrote to her after, in a state of great vulnerability, saying that I still had three weeks on my plan and asking if she could fit me in for further sessions. I felt too vulnerable after those abrupt goodbyes to just sign up for one of the free slots on her schedule - maybe I should have, but that's the thing with psychological issues, you sometimes aren't your own best advocate, which they should know at BetterHelp! She just replied it had been lovely to meet and that she wished me the best for the future. I no longer dared to follow up. So basically I wasted a lot of money on that last month, getting nothing but a highly emotional session that left me reeling emotionally, followed by what felt like a refusal of support. I have been trying to rationalize this - maybe she was super busy and didn't read my messages properly? But either way, it shouldn't be the patient who makes excuses for the therapist treating them neglectfully. Disappointing ending to what began as a good experience; it left me feeling very vulnerable and afraid to seek help elsewhere.

I signed up with Teencounseling through the BetterHelp website from the UK. I paid £240, but it wasn't made clear that the therapists are all US based, which wasn't appropriate for my requirements. They have since cancelled the contract and reimbursed me.

I needed immediate counselling which this gave me and it was very helpful. The app is a great tool that gives goals, notes, worksheets and a messaging service. The downsides are 1) it's SO expensive not per session but £180 a month is a lot, I'd rather pay per session so every 2-3 weeks. 2) The phone quality is REALLY bad. My first session there was a 10 second delay, like a satellite phone which was not helpful, the next session the signal kept going. Aside from the technical difficulties and the inflexible payment play I would really recommend this service as I found my therapist brilliant

I like my therapist, group coaching sessions and classes. Unfortunately there’s no flexibility in booking sessions, if I missed a session last week I can’t book 2 this week. With my work schedule sometimes I could not have sessions some weeks and end up just “loosing” sessions which makes membership very expensive. Also the app on the phone has constant glitches, takes a very long time to open

First, I think therapy is helpful and important. At the end of the day it's on the patient to do the work but having the support structure is nice. I'm sure there are many great therapists available and I had a good one which is why I'm 3 starring BH. What docked 2 stars? I don't care for the automatic billing regardless of usage. I went through a period of 6 weeks without scheduling an appointment due to the business of the season I was in and a vacation. I was charged regardless of whether or not I had meetings. No remedy was provided by BH when I raised the issue. The "pause" membership option automatically starts up again after a short period. I want to be able to indefinitely pause the auto billing and turn it back on when needed. Since it's not an option, I ended up having to cancel the membership altogether which is not what I wanted and I'm not ok with paying 20% more to be billed weekly instead of monthly.
