We have been unable to use the service due to the limited options of appointment times proposed to us - we need evenings and weekends as working parents. We feel that we have been taken advantage of and scammed as we have been auto charged despite booking NO appointments.
We should be refunded as NO services have been used since signing up (it took longer for us to input information then be sent messages). Payments should be taken once appointments are scheduled and this should be made clear. A choice for appointment times to match to therapists should be provided. This has been useless and created further disruption to our home environment.

Thank you for reaching out Visha, and we do apologize for any confusion around how your billing works. BetterHelp memberships are not based solely on sessions, due to the many other resources all included in a membership and this information is presented during registration as well as on our FAQ page. That said, we are always available to help utilize your account in the best ways for you.
For example, our Member Success Team is happy to assist with finding a therapist whose schedule better suits your own and making any other account adjustments that may be necessary. They reply to inquiries within 1 business day but I am going to request the email address associated with your BetterHelp account, through a TrustPilot form you will receive shortly.
We look forward to working together to straighten this out for you!
Sincerely,
BetterHelp Team

I am very confused
I am very confused. I paid for 4 sessions. They don’t give you an option to pay as you go. So only after 2 sessions I can’t log into my account and they are asking me for another payment for another 4 sessions. I emailed them hopefully they either reimburse me for my 2 sessions or they allow me to schedule. Like why am I being asked for another Payment when I haven’t finished all my sessions. Shameful

Hi Imani,
BetterHelp memberships aren't based on session usage because there are many other aspects of our platform included with your membership. This information is mentioned during the registration process and on our FAQ page but we understand there may have been some confusion.
Our Member Success Team is always available to assist in situations like these and typically respond within 1 business day. I am going to request the email address associated with your BetterHelp account, through a TrustPilot form you will receive soon, so we can speak further about your account.

Highly Unprofessional, Manipulative Therapist.
At first, I found my therapist friendly; more open than my NHS one, but nice enough. One of the first points she made was that she worked differently from other therapists and in the spirit of getting to know me she requested a photo and a song that I liked: I wanted to commit to the process, so I obliged. BetterHelp allows you to have access to your therapist between session. In the beginning I found this helpful, so I reached out. When I did not feel the need to contact her during the week she began to comment at the beginning of the next session “You don’t seem to like to reach out” or “Reach out if you can”: it all began to feel quite manipulative. Eventually she started to message without any prompt from me. When I clearly signed off from a message she continued to bombard me with more pointless questions. Every chance she got she tried to create similarities between us; more often than not, directing the conversation to her life.
She requested photos from my week, even if I was simply going about my day to day; all in the name of getting to know me. I Ignored these requests, finding them unsettling and a little creepy as time went on. I had just started seeing someone and she could not get through a session without mentioning my relationship; on a couple of occasions asking me what my new partner had been wearing. I found myself not wanting to open up, which is the whole point of therapy. When I challenged her comments, she wouldn’t give a straight answer instead hiding behind a “just curious”. She would disclose highly inappropriate information about herself leaving me feeling sympathetic; this is one of the reasons I stuck with her far longer than I should have.
I changed therapists on the platform. My new therapist calming, professional and focused on moving me forward; unlike my first, who was set on catastrophizing every situation to foster dependency. I approached BetterHelp to offer feedback, they said that I would need to leave a review: I explained that this would be embarrassing for my previous therapist because she clearly needed guidance. I went as far as to say, that this was not about a refund. Further requests to offer feedback were met with “leave a review”: according to BetterHelp the only way to do this, would be for me to have another session with my previous therapists after which the system would automatically offer me the chance to do so.
BetterHelp explained that she should be given the chance to respond to negative feedback; however, her highly inappropriate behaviour a clear result of countertransference was something requiring the intervention of a colleague or supervisor.
Up until I posted this review, BetterHelp has not offered a clear response to my complaint even after I gave them a full account of her actions including the truly worrying disclosures she made.
If you have a great Therapist on BetterHelp then more power to you; If you have an Unprofessional one, then you are clearly on your own
UPDATE: BETTERHELP thank you for your response. Your staff may not have been trained to do this, however, I can assure you, that this is exactly what they did!! I have their response to my emails. I have provided the additional information you requested and look forward to you reaching out very soon.

We appreciate you reaching out, CJL, and sharing your experience with us. Neither our Member Success nor our Clinical Operations team would be trained to suggest "leaving a review" for your therapist as a solution here, so we want to be sure we make every effort to investigate the claims and rectify the situation.
To do so, we have requested the email address associated with your BetterHelp account via a TrustPilot form you will receive shortly. Once we get that, we'll reach out to you directly.

If I could rate Betterhelp with ZERO…
If I could rate Betterhelp with ZERO stars I would do it. Customer Service is the worst I have ever dealt with. I am owed over $1,000 in erroneous charges, can't speak with a human, and have been dealing with a billing organization that hides behind email. The therapist is excellent which is unfortunate because I will probably need to cancel in order to get my charges fixed. For a company that is supposed to be in human services, BetterHelp is ill equipped to deal with humans in any capacity.

Hi Eileen,
It's great news that things are working out with your therapist but we are sorry to hear you are having troubles with your billing. It sounds like an account may have still been active, resulting in the continued charges. That said, I do see our Member Success Team is currently in contact to help straighten out what may have happened here.
We should have this resolved for you very shortly and look forward to helping you continue with your therapist!
Sincerely,
BetterHelp Team

Response from BetterHelpAug 15, 2024
Hi Dima,
To add some clarity around the auto-renew of your membership, since your account is still active, you continued to be charged. However, if you are ever away, our Member Success Team is always available to assist with account adjustments so you are not charged prematurely.
That said, we would be happy to look into this further for you, so I am going to request the email address associated with your BetterHelp account. You will receive a form from TrustPilot shortly where you can provide your contact information, and we look forward to straightening this out very soon!
Sincerely,

Misleading online assessment
I answered some online assessment questions expecting to be possibly presented with a therapist and plan for service. The next morning there was a $260 charge on my bank account which overdrew my account generating bank fees. I called the number provided but the agent who answered was obviously just a phone answering service and didn't offer any explanation. She said that someone would email me within two days. I said I needed a call back immediately and reversal of the charge. She was of no help at all. I had to reverse the charges with my bank costing me fees and stress. I had no intention of contracting for therapy unless I was presented with information on a therapist and agreed to a treatment plan. Was totally surprised by the overdraft to the point that I didn't even recognize who was charging me : didn't know who betterhelp was until I googled it to find out more about who was charging me. I guess I am lucky that I noticed soon enough to deny the charge and delete them from my PayPal account. Very scammy and dishonest.
OK, thank you for your response. I think the most disconcerting aspect was the apparent inability for your telephone support to provide any real answers or help. I didn't even know who you were and she was not much help. Just repeating some programmed phrases and finally said something about online therapy which triggered my memory. I really did not get any impression on the online assessment that I was agreeing to contract with you. So I had to pay my bank $30 to stop payment without reassurance from your agent.

Hi Ron,
Apologies if there was any misunderstanding regarding how the upfront payment through PayPal. You should have seen a window appear prior to confirming the payment that displayed how much you'd be charged, and that the payment would be taken right away.
In any case, it looks like we got back to your email within a handful of hours of receiving it, confirming your refund. Again, our apologies for any trouble surrounding the upfront charge.
