I had a disappointing experience with Ramone. After a late cancellation, her response came across as cold, assumptive, and lacking the empathy I’d expect from a therapist. Rather than checking in or showing understanding, she implied I might want to stop therapy entirely — without asking why I cancelled as she has other people more in need? Despite the fact she has no idea why I couldn't make it and that I am not only paying 100% but also extra for cancelling. When I raised this, her follow-up deflected responsibility and shifted blame back to me. It felt more administrative than therapeutic, and ultimately not like a safe or supportive space. I wouldn’t recommend her if you’re looking for someone emotionally attuned or grounded in core therapeutic values like curiosity, care, and repair.

Update June 16, 2025 BetterHelp emailed and refunded my payments and ensured my account was cancelled. This is they type of customer service I expected. Thank you I cancelled my Betterhelp account the week of May 6. Answering all the required questions about why I was cancelling. I cancelled because I have medical insurance that covers counseling and I didn't need weekly services. It even asked me if I ever returned would I like to keep my therapist associated with my account in which I said yes. She was great! I noticed this week that they had never stopped taking the weekly 90.00 from my account even though I had cancelled. I called the customer service line and was told they do not have customer service only and answering service. That my only communication would be through email. I asked how I was supposed to talk to someone about a huge amount of money that had been taken from my account after I cancelled and they gentlemen told me that I needed to take it up with my bank. This does not sound like a company is to be "helping" anyone. So disappointing given the skill of the therapist who worked with me and my daughter.

This is a scam. Expensive sessions that are only 30-45 minutes. Most are text sessions— wtf???? I can text a friend or the crisis line for free. It’s so sketchy that they make you pay before seeing potential therapist matches and schedules. I had to email support because they were going to charge me for a second week! I hate that I wasted $60, not a small amount of money. Betterhelp’s website only shows positive reviews & it’s impossible to leave a google review. Seriously stay away!!!!!

Absolutely useless. This is not for people that have the slightest genuine need. It just gives you links to suicide prevention (and I am not in a 3rd world country, UK born and bred). I do have Google you know? Obviously a scam to tap into everyone that self-diagnoses with ADHD etc.. Stay away if you have genuine issues. Worthless. Edit: The reply was just as worthless as the service. What a joke.

I genuinely thought it was a good idea and having seen so many people endorse it i thought i would give it a go. My first issues was that there really wasn't much diversity in therapists and if you come from a minority ethnic background, it was hard to find someone who really relates to your culture which is really important so just be conscious of that. The second issue was when i did match with a therapist trying to find a time to talk was impossible, you pay £60 and the only sessions that were available were 7/8pm onwards - as someone without kids or a job that goes too late it was okay for me but it wasn't my preference. You had to book in literal months in advance to get anything before late evening which is tricky when you've only spent 35 mins in a session and don't know how you're going to gel with someone. Third, the therapist i had was intentionally provocative towards the end of the session as i assume it's what makes people come back the next week to defend themselves or to find out more. For example right at the end of my last session she said "you're regressing, you're stagnating and making excuses" when i had spoken to her only twice previously and had explained a really difficult week? If she genuinely believed that to be true why not bring it up earlier? That's a pretty heavy thing to drop 3 minutes before the end of the session. I did not go back to her as i was pretty angry at that response. The final and most frustrating thing for me way the payment. It's a rolling subscription they have so even if you don't have a session one week, despite wanting one but the therapist not having any availability at a suitable time, you get charged. I was not aware of this, i was told i would be charged monthly for the sessions that i had, instead i was billed weekly. It's a weird thing where you can't see the full terms and conditions until you're subscribing and when you then go back to find it you can't so it's hard to prove to your bank. As soon as i noticed it i cancelled my subscription but even before that when i cancelled my remaining sessions with the therapist as i felt as though she was not the right fit for me, she nor anyone else mentioned i would continued to be charged. I had 3 35 mins sessions and i was charged for 9 weeks of sessions - thats £360 they took from me without giving a service. I contacted them and went back and forth for weeks before they agreed to give me a refund and even then only when my bank intervened. This all happened in April and i am still waiting for the refunds to fully come through, it's been 2 months! For a service which is supposed to be supporting people with mental health they really have done nothing to actually protect customers and have opted into using a financial approach which benefits them. The fact that nobody tells you it's weekly and even after you cancel sessions, because you are actively subscribed to their website, they continue to take money which is not right to me. It was also a shame that therapists don't tell you about any of this either. I think there are probably some genuinely nice therapists on their but i would go down any other route before using this, or have constant tabs on how much they are charging you and when to ensure you are not overcharged. Really disappointing experience and when i did contact them it was obvious they could not care less so i'm grateful that AMEX has been fighting it all and given me credit for disputed charges but it really should not come down to that.
