The way BetterHelp handles billing is…
The way BetterHelp handles billing is anything but helpful, especially for new users. While they offer several plans, the only one that allows consistent weekly therapy sessions costs around $260 per month — and even that plan isn’t ideal. I encourage you to review all their options, but the cheaper tiers strip away key features, making them unsuitable for anyone who needs to talk with a therapist more than once a month. In my experience, getting weekly appointments is unlikely. You might spend a week or two just to get your first session, only to find the therapist isn’t a good fit. Then you’re back to searching for another, which could take another couple of weeks — leaving you near the end of your billing cycle with maybe one or two sessions total. It’s incredibly frustrating to pay for a full month and only receive a single appointment. To make matters worse, BetterHelp floods your phone and email with reminders before appointments but gives no notice before automatically charging you again. I’m not trying to discourage anyone from seeking therapy — it’s incredibly important. But I hope people read this and consider other options. If you do try BetterHelp, I sincerely hope your experience is better than the months I wasted with them. Edit: I was able to get a prorated refund which is a good start.

Hi Tom, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I’m sorry to hear about your experience and understand your concerns regarding billing and session scheduling. We truly want to make things right for you. I am going to request the email address associated with your BetterHelp account, through a TrustPilot form you will receive shortly, so we can make sure any concerns are addressed. In regards to billing, our team is typically able to provide accommodations such as extensions or credits which allow you to have more time to meet with your therapist if there are any scheduling issues. Thank you again for sharing your experience, and we hope to have the opportunity to resolve this for you.
