I am completely against the existence of such organisations online and them being allowed to charge people money for this. Particularly vulnerable people.
What regulations are there.
My honest opinion is NHS must provide mental health support 1st and foremost
What qualifications do these therapists have?.
I particularly challenge Brian Back to come forward and tell everyone on national television about how he is professionally qualified and competent in this field.
I also think it is wrong that people should be charged for this.
Professional psychological and psychiatrist professionals i still hope study medicine and if this is their expertise then we should be afforded this opportunity with real professionally competent practitioners.
Brian Back come forward and tell everyone what makes you professionally qualified to continue in what you practice and charge people money for your services. Also if you are so competent stand up be counted and represent your better help colleagues accordingly with credible evidence

Betterhelp needs to do better
Betterhelp sessions felt incredibly impersonal and quite frankly superficial. I ended up cancelling because I felt like I wasn't making any real progress. The discussions we had were mostly surface level, and I couldn’t recall any deep conversations that actually helped me. It often felt like I was just another appointment on my counselor's calendar, and I was left feeling more frustrated than anything. They often pressured me to select an appointment every week (so they could get paid obviously) that didn't work with my already busy schedule. There was poor follow-up from my counselor and customer service. The pricing is outrageously expensive for those on a budget, and I didn't qualify for their "financial aid." You are charged weekly whether you use it or not. The BetterHelp platform also leaves much to be desired. The platform randomly selects a counselor for you based on criteria you select (or even don't select)! I tried contacting customer service to find a different counselor but I just went around and around in circles with automated messages and the solutions reps offered didn't work. There was a VERY limited selection of counselors to choose from with varying degrees of experience (most of them with only 2-3 years of experience). Overall, I didn’t find it beneficial, and I would not recommend it if you’re looking for meaningful support on your time or money. This experience just came across as exploitation of my mental health and information (data mining).
**edit: Have not received this separate Trustpilot form Betterhelp claims they've sent me either**

I signed up for a group class thru BH…
I signed up for a group class thru BH called Fair Fighting Rules.
I arrived 5 minutes late and apparently missed out on the “rules” . I posted two short items about my situation after the “therapist” facilitator urged us to post in response to his points and he then publicly highlighted my posts and talked about me in a derogatory way, including saying that my post “ we are together 38 years” (just for context)as irrelevant and went off about it.
I basically stopped listening to this jerk after that and exited early. Btw he threatened to “block any further comments from me if I didn’t follow the rules”. This is a mental health site? Seriously.
When I submitted a complaint to BH customer service, they responded with:
“ we do not have access to recorded classes as that feature is managed by ClickMeeting.” And therefore had no way to investigate. 😳
However, they did offer a free group class and an apology. Wow.

Hi John,
We're really sorry again to hear about your experience in this group session. While we are not able to record these sessions for privacy reasons, member feedback is how we are able to track patterns and hold therapists who host these sessions accountable. I can confirm that our Clinical Operations team was alerted of this feedback and will be investigating these claims further. We certainly understand your concerns and will be doing our due diligence to ensure any clinically inappropriate behavior is addressed.
If there's anything else we can do for you, please don't hesitate to reply to our last email, or reach out again at [email protected].
Thank you,
BetterHelp Team

Very disappointed with BetterHelp
Very disappointed with BetterHelp. The site won’t let me get on won’t let me send an email because it tells me I’m a bot, cuts me off. First session was great and now I can’t seem to connect. There is no telephone number to ring in the UK. I tried to ring the American number and again got cut off so it seems I’m not even going to be able to get a refund. Making my mental health become even worse.

Hi Ailsa,
We're so sorry for the trouble! It does appear our team was able to follow up with you via email within just a few hours and resolve this issue for you, including assisting with a refund for unused time. We hope this experience was able to improve your view of us!
If there's anything more we can do, please don't hesitate to respond in that same email thread and we should be able to assist!
All the best,
BetterHelp Team

Billed like crazy by BetterHelp with nothing to show for it
I was billed from the moment I joined BetterHelp for $52.00USD/week for six weeks. However, I did not even meet with a therapist until week 3, when I had an introductory meeting to just get to know my therapist and feel it out. I wasn't even sure after our first meeting whether or not I liked her, but once that visit was over, I was charged again for the three weeks afterwards for another $52.00/week. Overall, I paid them $312.00 over a one-month period, and they refunded me $13.00 when I explained how I had barely used the service. I was billed this exorbitant amount with nothing to show for it. Apparently, as my therapist kept messaging me to ask when I wanted to meet, I was paying her just to be checking in with me. I do not blame the therapist, but I am very upset with BetterHelp for their outrageous prices. In fact, ironically, the regret, guilt, and desperation of seeing my money disappear like that has done more to harm my mental health than help it in the long run. If you are not planning to utilize this service weekly, or don't have time to have a weekly session because you work fulltime and have normal human working hours, DO NOT get therapy through BetterHelp. Find a friend to talk to; even your hair stylist will bill you more reasonably than this service that charges per week for nothing in return.

Hi Guadalupe,
We apologize for any ambiguity surrounding the membership billing structure outlined on the payment page! Your membership allows for the option to have a weekly live session with your assigned therapist, as well as access to many other features (group sessions, classes, worksheets, prompted digital journaling, etc).
With all that being said, if you didn't use the service at all, our Member Success team should be able to work with you on a refund or membership extension.
You'll get a Trustpilot form shortly; please include the email address linked to your account if you still need help and we'll have a team member reach out to you directly to get this resolved.

This is a bad company and a big scam…
This is a bad company and a big scam don’t go for it. The plan is paid for was ment to be good but as I used it my therapist didn’t even respond my sessions were cut of early and I didn’t even get listened to. The amount of money I spent for that plan to not even get bare minimum is ridiculous. The app hardly works and all therapist are god awful. I tried two therapist and they were just the same. It was like they couldn’t be bothered. Do not recommend

We're sorry to hear you weren't being prioritized by your therapist, MH! We can certainly understand how this would be a frustrating and disappointing experience, and we certainly expect better from any therapist offering services through our platform.
In order to gather more information and help to make this right, I've sent a separate Trustpilot form to you - please just include the email address attached to your BetterHelp account in that form so that we can have a member of our management team reach out to your directly.

BetterHelp comes across as a cynical
BetterHelp comes across as a cynical, overly commercialized concept that exploits people at their most vulnerable. Rather than providing genuine help and professional support, the focus seems to be almost entirely on subscriptions, automated responses, and continuous payments—regardless of the quality of the “help” being delivered.
The experience feels impersonal, superficial, and frankly irresponsible. When you reach out in search of support for your mental well-being, you expect empathy, continuity, and professionalism—not generic messages, poor follow-up, and a system that is clearly built more for scalability than for people.
Most troubling is the way BetterHelp aggressively markets itself to individuals who are already struggling. This leaves a strong impression of a business that profits from others’ mental distress rather than sincerely aiming to help.
For me, BetterHelp is the biggest scam I have personally encountered in modern times—not because they promise too much, but because they deliver far too little when it truly matters.

Hi Albert,
Thank you for your honest and thoughtful review. Although our Member Success team is not comprised of licensed therapists, we attempt to provide timely and empathetic replies to all member reach-outs. That being said, we recognize that improvements can always be made when it comes to demonstrating compassion and support. We've shared your feedback internally with our Success and Product teams and will strive to continue elevating our service!

The platform is god awful
The platform is god awful. I selected a therapist to work with, 2 days later I get an email saying, "that therapist is not available we have assigned you some random person"... I used this site because it allowed go through different therapists and select one I liked. So, just threw that out the window. Mind you, I'm in a bit of a rush for help. Anyways, two days later, they finally give me the option to select the a therapist with date and time, something that should be offered right away.
I find out because I didn't go through the regain "couples" therapy where you have zero choice on who you get, we can't do couples therapy. Fair, I selected individual for the sake of being able to choose a therapist and being faster, Ideally. None of that happened. Whatever.
Then, I get assigned someone 4 hours before our appmt, I am seeing if I can switch to couples therapy, There Are ZERO Options anywhere to help me with this. I go into a tab to "choose a different therapist" never fully committing to change my appmt, just to see if I can find anywhere an options to help me, NOPE it kicks me out of the appmt with this therapist I was talking to. Just like that, no Warning or anything.
Ok, well I have money I have to use now, let me select someone and schedule a date... NOPE, I guess the site times out and in less than 10 minutes, it shut down that option for me and now it says "A therapist will be assigned to you in 24-48 hours"... What a freaking joke. This company is supposed to help people but it's only stressed me out more...

Hi John,
We're so sorry for this poor matching experience. If you haven't paid to activate your membership our system may reassign you once that therapist's caseload fills up. That being said, I can still certainly understand the disappointment here, as well as with the described issues of trying to search for your next match and not seeing any options.
I'd like to be sure our management team can look further into the issues you've been facing so we can get to the bottom of all this. We'd also like to see what we can do make up for the poor experience.
I've requested the email address linked to your BetterHelp account. Please provide that in the Trustpilot form that you'll receive separately so we can reach out directly!
