I’m here for PTSD related to a series…
I’m here for PTSD related to a series of traumatic events that started at age 4, then age 10, then 15, then several traumatic events over the last decade. I’m 45. My therapist knows I have PTSD and knows how difficult it’s been for me to beat the opioid epidemic. After 2 back surgeries I was already on pain meds but when they forced me on OxyContin it destroyed my life. I lost everything. My wife, family, friends, home, job. Everything. I’ve climbed my way back and I’ve been hanging in there but since 2022, after my divorce and at 3 years sober, identity theft took over my life. I’ve been dealing with identity theft problems regularly for years now and it’s been the last thing on earth I need since going through so much loss. I trusted my therapist. I respected him. He just created a whole new universe of trauma for me because he decided to be a doctor or psychiatrist and judged the meds I’m on without knowing my med history, the decades of different combos and cocktails, he gave me medication recommendations that made me extremely anxious, scared, he told me I needed to get off my antidepressants and my anxiety medication and my adderall and he doesn’t know that I’ve been there done that, he doesn’t know what’s been done and what hasn’t. He failed to respect my incredibly difficult journey with psychiatry and then opioids. I fought for my life to get off all pain meds and I’m 6 years clean. But it’s not his job to tell me ANYTHING about my psychiatric meds. He can ask me questions but he’s giving his judgments and recommendations and now I’m paralyzed with fear. I started crying when I took my meds last night and this morning. I cry at least once a day but not before taking my meds. It took years and I’ve been a lab rat and guinea pig as many psychiatrists over the last 30+ years did trial and error on me. It’s been hell and it’s not his job to tell me to restart the trial and error process all over again. It’s not his job to say, “Ohhhhh that’s not good, that would definitely mess up someone’s brain” in response to me telling him what meds I’m on. He asked. I would’ve said, “I’d rather not say” if I knew he was gonna betray my trust and criticize me, make me feel worse than I already feel. I trusted him and now I’ll never do therapy again. I need therapy but that’s the last straw. I’ll never trust a therapist ever again. He is a terrific therapist and has a wonderful heart and he’s highly knowledgeable and he’s a great man. I don’t want the company to give him any consequences because then he’ll destroy me on my Yelp or get revenge. And he doesn’t deserve to be ruined because of a mistake. He forgot how hypersensitive I am and how severe my ptsd is. He usually knows better than to grill me about my meds. Pressuring me to fight for my life while I stop taking all medication. I told him the withdrawal process would be hell. He said, “I know.” Like, just be a man and do it. He forgot that the last time I went through hell stopping medication, I lost EVERYTHING. Please don’t discipline him. He’s a good man. I’m not the type to sue or take things to that level but this is one time where I’m seriously considering at least consulting with an attorney because your company is responsible for making my PTSD worse.
