Don't Trust Better Help!
I turned to Better Help because I was dealing with a great deal of stress and anxiety, and their advertisements suggested that many customers with insurance pay nothing out of pocket. So I signed up, ran my insurance through their estimation system, and was told that my estimated out of pocket cost was $0 per session. So I found a therapist who I ended up seeing for 10 sessions. Meanwhile my billing page continued to show I was being charged $0 per session out of pocket. But then six months later the charges started coming in. Apparently my insurance only covered about half of what Better Help was charging, but Better Help waited six months to begin billing me for the difference. So well after finishing the sessions that I had been told were paid for, I ended up accumulating over $1,000 in charges. And despite going back and forth with their customer service, they offered no help at all. Better Help's business practices are not just misleading, they are predatory. They claim to offer help to people in need, but hide the actual costs until it's too late to do anything about it. And then they are unwilling to make any adjustments to the charges. Had I known the sessions would cost over $100 each out of pocket I would have thought twice about turning to them for help. Now they have added more stress than they helped me to deal with in the first place. I would never recommend Better Help to anyone. Find a local, in-person therapist that is honest about the costs of their services. Don't trust this deceitful company. They do not have your best interests in mind.

Hi Steve, We're very sorry that this was your experience. While we are able to provide estimates for out-of-pocket patient responsibility costs, we do not have visibility into deductibles and final patient responsibility costs as it pertains to those. It looks like our insurance client support team has been in contact with you to offer an additional potential solution to help lower these costs for you. Thank you, BetterHelp Team
