I have had BetterHelp for a few months now and in that time I have only had 2 actual sessions. Every week after the first 2 was me sitting in front of my computer for an hour waiting for the session to start, and then messaging support and my therapist about why it didn't happen. My therapist messaged back and said she was on the other side waiting, and I never showed up, while I was there waiting and it looked like she never showed up. She also mentioned that this has happened before in her experience with this platform. This happened every single time for about 3 months, where in the meantime I had contacted support multiple times and followed all of their "turn it off and on again" style solutions exactly. The therapist was great, and I could see this platform being great if it worked. But in my experience, the technology isn't there, and even when it did work it had slow messaging and fuzzy video calls. My experience was frustrating, disappointing, and a huge waste of time for both me and my therapist.

My therapist kept canceling on me. Had more cancelations than actual sessions. And she always canceled last minute or even 10 minutes after a session was supposed to start. She makes the excuse of her kids being sick all the time but really, she doesn't know how to effectively schedule her time correctly. I don't appreciate my time being wasted. I only sought out therapy because I finally had some money but it was a waste of time and money. I want a full refund. I was better off just looking at pinterest motivational memes.

Unfortunately I had a bad experience with this app. The sessions with my therapist were good but sporadic so after two consecutive payments of £280 and only a few video sessions I decided that the solution was too pricey for my needs. I cancelled the service, but foolishly I got confused with the dates of when my membership ended and therefore when I could last access to the app. I therefore realised I could no longer message my therapist when I signed in so I messaged customer service as I simply wanted to send a note to my therapist to say I had decided to stop the payments, and say thank you - out of common courtesy really. I embarked on a series of back and forth on email where they claimed my email was not registered and therefore questioned my legitimacy, and whether I had an account in the first place, before eventually simply dismissing me, telling me that I couldn’t message my therapist without an active membership. So no flexibility or understanding at all. But what’s more concerning is that when I got round to logging in the app again because I saw a notification, my access and messages had been re activated. I assumed a good will gesture following all the back and forth, but instead I saw my account had been re-activated on a weekly payment basis. Another £60 has left my account. I really don’t understand how this has happened. I cancelled the membership again and this time also cancelled the payment on PayPal my end to avoid further surprises. It’s very distressing though, and I think that if I were experiencing more severe mental issues this sort of scenario could have really exasperated me. I appreciate it’s a digital tool but it feels quite impersonal and very money grabbing.

I found BetterHelp basically useless and a waste of money. They are mostly based in America so times for sessions where not great for Australians. Both of my therapists were average but the second one spent most of the time t talking about himself. They provided no tools for self help and specific requests for LGBT therapists was not fullfilled. Couldn't recommend.

This company isn’t going to actually help if you need anything documented formally. I have ptsd and my counselor was great. But now i need documents for work for something legal. They refuse to provide any proof of diagnosis. This is a fake counseling service that will give you therapy at a high cost with absolutely no paper trail. Now i spent all this money on therapy and i have no proof of a real disorder to be able to get accommodations at work. Thanks, betterhelp. Update: why would anyone ever want to see a therapist who cannot diagnose them or help them get actual help under the ADA in the real world? This is a glorified chat service. What trash. Take your money elsewhere. I never had it expained that they couldn’t diagnose. In fact, my therapist said that they are diagnosing and treating me for ptsd, which i also had diagnosed years ago by someone else. What real company would say “on our faq page we say we can’t be official but we will officially take your money”. I’m about to get a lawyer.

One of the worst recent internet experiences I've had. Their first therapist was a no-show. The next two I selected who were advertised as "available" actually were no longer registered on the site. The fourth therapist spent an entire session telling me about a family member of hers who was ill. And lastly I was rejected as a client by the fifth and final therapist I chose. PS: After reading through several of the one star reviews, I found several complaints that the company had charged large amounts *after* the person's account had been canceled -- in two cases months after the cancellations. I have my email confirming my cancellation from BetterHelp and will be carefully checking my credit card billing. If I am unlawfully charged for anything after the date of cancellation, I will take appropriate steps by disputing the charges with my credit card company, filing with the Better Business Bureau and notifying my local Attorney General's office.

My therapist was very helpful. The customer support...not so much. I've been trying to get an understanding of "my account" for days now so that I can continue but not getting any answers at all. This is VERY disheartening, especially during this time when it is very much needed.

These apps are like therapy lite. They're not meant for anyone who requires court-ordered therapy. And despite the provider being licensed, they usually refuse to provide endorsements.
